Root was found dead at is home, Thursday afternoon, his death caused by a hard cold and the infirmities of age.

He was born on the home farm November 20, 1844, a son of John and Lydia Armstrong Root and was never married. He had been living alone most of the time since the death of his sister, Genevieve, four years ago. He is the last of six children.

He is survived by a nephew and niece Elmer J. Root and Mrs. Grace Bringloe and two grand nephews Burrell and Arthur Root. The funeral was held at his home Saturday, Feb. 9th and burial was made in the family plot in Springfield Center Cemetery."

He was buried on 9 February 1929 in Springfield Center, Springfield Township, Otsego County, NY.¹⁰³ in the Springfield Cemetery.
