Calkins, 95 of Tomah passed away on Tuesday, May 7, 2024, at her home. Beatrice was born on the family farm in the Township of Ridgeville on August 28, 1928, to George H. and Edna E. (Sommerfield) Roscovius. On August 22, 1953, Beatrice was united in marriage to Rodney S. Calkins. He preceded her in death on March 14, 1999. Throughout her lifetime, aside from being a wife, homemaker and mother, Bea worked as a custodian for the North Tomah School, the Tomah Jr School and the Tomah High School. She also worked as a waitress at the Blue Room and in the Tomah VA commissary. Bea loved gardening, bird watching, especially hummingbirds and baking. Banana bread and cookies were some of her family favorites. She is survived by her children, Sharon (John) Bresnahan of Colorado Springs, CO, Ricky (Kelly) Calkins of Tomah, Peggy Shaw of Tomah, Kim (Barb) Calkins of Portage, Kathy Steinbrink of Tomah, Julie Baldwin of Tomah, Danny (Dorrie) Calkins of Camp Douglas, Pam (Rick) Lovelace of Tunnel City, Jennifer Jacobson of Camp Douglas. She is further survived by countless grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. In addition to her parents, further preceded in death by her husband, Rodney, daughters, infant Betty Jo Calkins, Sandy Glumski, and Penny Thorpe, a son-in-law, Clarence Baldwin and great granddaughter, Olivia Hope Olson. A Memorial Service will be held on Monday, May 13, 2024, 11:00 AM at Sonnenburg Family Funeral Home, 801 E. Monowau Street, Tomah. Pastor Robert Gerke will officiate. Burial will in Mount Vernon Cemetery, Tomah. Relatives and friends are invited for a time of visitation on Monday at the funeral home from 10:00 AM until the time of the service.
