391. Martin George "Jack" KUEHL was born on 18 September 1920 in Tomah, Tomah Township, Monroe County, WI.16,151,160 He appeared in the census in 1930 in Tomah Township, Monroe County, WI.151 He died on 10 February 2007 at the age of 86 in Tomah, Tomah Township, Monroe County, WI.59

Obituary Notes: "Martin “Jack” George Kuehl, age 86, of Tomah, WI, passed away Feb. 10, 2007, at the Tomah VA Medical Center. He was born Sept. 18, 1920, in rural Tomah to Frank A. and Emma (Kemnow) Kuehl. Martin attended the Lutheran School in Tomah and was a lifetime member of St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church in Tomah. He graduated from Tomah High School in 1940. In 1942, Martin was drafted into the Army and served under General Patton during World War II. On Jan. 5, 1943, he married Vera Boettcher. Together they raised their family and lived all of their lives in Tomah. Martin worked many years for the Milwaukee Railroad. He later went to work at the VA hospital, retiring in September of 1980.

Martin was an outdoor person; he loved hunting, fishing, camping and traveling to various places around the country and the world. He was always ready for a good game of cards, which was his favorite indoor hobby. Even into his later years, he continued to enjoy all these hobbies with his sons and grandsons.

Those who will miss Martin include: his wife, Vera; three children, Arlene (Mark) Fagasa of Virginia, Craig (Christie) Kuehl of Tomah and Douglas (Judy) Kuehl of Georgia; eight grandchildren, Christopher Coleman of Hawaii and Deseree (Anthony) Rushford of Alaska, Tammia Kotenbeutal of La Crosse, Trevor Ward (Rana Lamprecht) of Madison, Brandon and Gus Kuehl of Tomah, Adam Kuehl of Arizona and David Kuehl of Georgia; three great-grandchildren, Cassidy and Dylan Kotenbeutal of La Crosse and Sawyer Rushford of Alaska. Also surviving is a brother-in-law, Raymond (Doris) Boettcher; sisters-in-law, Ellen Boettcher, Ethel Boettcher and Gert Westpfahl, all from Tomah, along with many loving nieces and nephews.

Martin was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Emma; an infant son, Robert; a daughter, Barbara Ward Anderson; an infant grandchild; five sisters, Florence, Edna, Alice, Emma and Beatrice; and four brothers, Frank, Harold, Howard and William.

Funeral services were held on Wednesday, Feb. 14, at 11 a.m. at the St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church in Tomah. Pastor Donald Buch officiated. Burial followed in the Oak Grove Cemetery in Tomah with military honors by Grassman-Sowle-Larsen-Senz American Legion Post 201. Visitation was Wednesday from 10 a.m. until time of the service at the church.

Martin George "Jack" KUEHL and Vera Alma BOETTCHER were married in January 1943.89 Vera Alma BOETTCHER, daughter of Paul George Gust BOETTCHER and Clara GRIMM, was born on 16 October 1927 in Tomah, Tomah Township, Monroe County, WI.59,160 She appeared in the census in 1930 in Lincoln Township, Monroe County, WI.151 She graduated in 1945 in Tomah, Tomah Township, Monroe County, WI.629 from Tomah High School. Vera died on 4 March 2024 at the age of 96 in La Crosse, La Crosse County, WI.59 Obituary Notes: "Vera Kuehl, age 96, of Tomah, WI, passed away on Monday, March 4th, 2024 at Gunderson Hospital in La Crosse, WI.
Vera was born in Tomah on October 16, 1927 to Paul and Clara Boettcher. In January of 1943 (at age 15) she traveled to Texas by train to marry her hometown sweetheart, Martin Kuehl, who was in Army training. They were happily married for over 64 years.
Vera spent her entire life in the Tomah area, and she also enjoyed traveling throughout the country and to Germany, Alaska, and Hawaii. She was a lifelong member of St. Paul Lutheran Church and she served on several women's groups there. Vera worked many years at Shutter's Supermarket, eventually retiring from the Tomah VA Hospital.
Vera camped often with family and friends and she was also a very good cook. In retirement she participated in several card clubs in the area and was widely known as a very good player at both cards and at the casino. She enjoyed frequent visits from her family and also other relatives and friends including Mary and Terry Boettcher, Carol Aune, John and Ruth Ann Gamerdinger, Sherry and Gary Tolle and many others, to include paster Bob Gerke and pastor Steve Olson who provided her spiritual comfort.
Vera is survived by three children: Arlene (Mark) Fagasa of Texas, Craig (Christie) Kuehl of Tomah and Douglas (Judy) Kuehl of Georgia, seven grandchildren; Christopher Coleman of Texas and Deseree Rushford of Alaska, Trevor Ward of La Crosse, Brandon (Nicole) Kuehl of Madison, Gus (Glenda) Kuehl of Virginia, Adam (Courtney) Kuehl of Arizona and David (Laura) Kuehl of Georgia; ten great-grandchildren, Cassidy (Shane) Cada and Dylan Kotenbeutal of Minnesota, Sawyer Rushford of Alaska, Tanner and Caden Kuehl of Madison and Gracie Mae Kuehl and Adalyn Kuehl of Georgia, Jose' Cabrera of North Carolina, and Daniel Kuehl & Ada Sanchez of Virginia; and one great great grandchild, Ayvree Cada of Minnesota.Vera is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband Martin, infant son Robert, daughter Barbara Ward, and granddaughter Tami Kotenbeutal; also brothers Michael Boettcher, Roland Boettcher, Earl Boettcher, Raymond Boettcher and sister, Dorothy (Boettcher) Kneifl.
Funeral Services for Vera will be held on Friday, March 8, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church in Tomah. Burial will follow in the Oak Grove Cemetery in Tomah. Family and friends are invited for visitation on Friday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service at the church. The Torkelson Funeral Home of Tomah is assisting the family with arrangements.
