Pergande, 59, Hazel Green, and Elizabeth Pergande, 54, Kieler, died when the pickup truck he was driving was struck by another vehicle driven by Allen B. Moore, 65, Westby. The accident occurred at 12:30 p.m. The Wisconsin State Patrol said Moore was southbound on State Highway 131 at the intersection of County Highway A when Pergande, who was traveling eastbound, failed to yield at a stop sign. The Pergande vehicle was broadsided by Moore's vehicle on the driver's side. A passenger in the Pergande vehicle, Merle J. Pergande, 55, Kieler, was transported to Tomah Memorial Hospital for treatment of injuries to his head and upper body that were described as serious. He was later taken by Med-Flight to Gundersen Lutheran Hospital, La Crosse. Moore, who sustained minor injuries, was also taken to Tomah Memorial Hospital for treatment. The deaths were the first two fatalities recorded in Monroe County for 2004."
