He emigrated in 1868 from Preussen (Prussia).^10,13 "They settled three miles south of Wilton in Monroe County. The first land purchased in 1877, was bordered on the south by the headwaters of the Kickapoo River. At first they lived in a small log cabin, but built a larger log house in 1880. In 1903, a frame addition was added." He appeared in the census in 1880 in Wellington Township, Monroe County, WI.¹ His occupation was "Farmer." Albertina L. "Minnie" ROHDE¹⁹ was born in 1847 in Preussen (Prussia).^{1,8,16,20,21,22} (The 1880 Census lists her given name as "Tena," although other sources listed it as "Minnie."

According to the research of Sandra (Arndt) Noth, her surname was Rohde, although it was listed as "Pranke" in the Registration of Marriages for her son Fred, as "Rahnke" in the baptism record for her son Otto, and as "Branka" in the Registration of Births for her son William.)

The census also indicated that they had 2 children, both of whom were living at the time. Auguste "Moodie" KUEHL¹³, daughter of Christoph KUEHL and Friederike UNKNOWN (KUEHL), was born in 1845 in Preussen (Prussia).^10,16 (Her birth date was listed as Apr 1840 in the 1900 Census. Her gravestone lists it as 1845. The census is believed to have been an error, as that was the same birth date as her husband's.)
