43. Leon A. SCHINDLER was born on 19 August 1944 in Wilton, Wilton Township, Monroe County, WI.⁴⁶ He died on 22 August 2005 at the age of 61 in Wilton, Wilton Township, Monroe County, WI.⁴⁶

Obituary Notes: "Leon A. Schindler, 61, of Wilton, died Monday, Aug. 22, 2005, at his home in Wilton. He was born Aug. 19, 1944, to Adolph and Viola (Rohde) Schindler at Wilton. He attended high school at Wilton and graduated in 1962. He furthered his education at WWTC in La Crosse.

He was united in marriage to Barbara Ann Stroschein at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Wilton on March 20, 1971. She preceded him in death on Oct. 15, 1971. Leon worked for Thurow Motors in Wilton, drove truck for Bud Speicher; he also worked at the Wilton Co-op and was a maintenance man for the Village of Wilton. He recently drove truck for Martin's Bulk Milk Service in Wilton until he was forced to retire because of illness. He was a lifetime member of the Wilton Rod & Gun Club and a former member of the Wilton Area Fire Dept. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, trapshooting and playing cards with friends. Leon was an avid Packer and NASCAR Fan.

He is survived by a brother, Larry (Brenda) of Big Bend; two step-sisters, Julaine (Harold) Billings of Bozeman, MT, and Ruth Ann (Lowell) Baltz of Darby, MT. He is also survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Marilyn.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, Aug. 26, at 11 a.m. at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Wilton. Pastor Ryan Felcther will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Relatives and friends are invited to call at the Smith-Nelson Funeral Home in Wilton on Thursday from 4 until 8 p.m. and at the church on Friday from 10 a.m. until the time of the service.

A special thanks to all of Leon's friends who provided care and attention to Leon's special needs, especially in the past weeks. Memorials in memory of Leon A. Schindler may be sent to Gundersen Lutheran Cancer Center, La Crosse." He was buried on 26 August 2005 in Wilton, Wilton Township, Monroe County, WI.⁴⁶ in the St. Paul's Lutheran Church Cemetery.
