"There really was a town called Werner in Juneau County....Werner Village Juneau Co WI... was 2 miles upstream from the mouth of the Yellow River in Germantown Twp. Werner was a ghost town long before it was flooded by a dam in the 1920's.

Germantown, at the mouth of the Yellow R. was founded in 1848. It was a lively town, reaching its peak population in the 1880's. It had 4 sawmills, school, etc. plus a hotel. This would be the hotel owned by our Wm Belcher - age 47 in 1880 Germantown Census.

Werner was established 1857. It was discontinued in 1887 and its papers were sent to Germantown. The proprietor/founder of Werner was John Werner. He was born in New York in about 1822 and was a lumberman and one of the first white men to settle in Juneau Co., where he set up a lumber mill. You can read about early Juneau County by Googling Werner Village WI and looking under Collections of the State historical society of WI. Page 370-410 tells about the county's early history."
