8. Virgil L. SCHROEDER was born on 30 April 1926 in Grant Township, Monroe County, WI.2,5 He died on 14 October 2008 at the age of 82 in Tomah, Tomah Township, Monroe County, WI.2

Obituary Notes: "Virgil L. Schroeder, 82, of Warrens, died Tuesday, Oct. 14, 2008, at Tomah Memorial Hospital. He was born April 30, 1926, to George and Mamie (Beltz) in Grant Township. He attended the Kirby Grade School. He was united in marriage to Lorraine Miller on June 18, 1955, at the Warrens Baptist Church. He was a U.S. Marine veteran, serving during the Korean War, and a member of Grassman-Sowle-Larsen-Senz American Legion Post #201. He worked as a boiler mechanic and boiler fireman at Fort McCoy until he retired in November of 1977. Virgil and Lorraine served as parade marshals for the Warrens Cranfest in 1988. He served on the Cranfest Board and volunteered on many committees. He worked on the Roger and June Jensen Cranberry Marsh. He took care of the farmers’ market at the Warrens Cranberry Festival. He plowed snow and mowed lawns for his neighbors. He enjoyed cutting and selling wood. He loved animals and had a special buddy in his dog Casey. Most important to Virgil was spending time visiting with his neighbors and friends. He was a devoted husband and a loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend.

He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Lorraine; five children, LaVern (Sharon) of Warrens, Debi (John) Hancock of Tomah, Dale (Kim) of Warrens, Calvin George of Warrens, and Teresa (Brian) Hubert of Tomah; nine grandchildren, Christine Hawes of Warrens, Niki Schroeder of Warrens, LaVern Schroeder II (Kari Salter) of Sparta, Jamie Schroeder of Warrens, Bradley Schroeder of Tomah, Nick Billiard of Appleton, Lorin Billiard of Warrens, Tanner Hubert of Madison and Ethan Hubert of Tomah; seven great-grandchildren, Austin Schroeder, Donovan Hawes, Hope Schroeder, Faith Schroeder, Mykenzie Schroeder, Madison Schroeder, and Lucas Voltz; four sisters-in-law, Rosie (Bob) Vine of Janesville, Betty (Dick) Ebert of Broken Arrow, OK, Bonnie (Roger) Decker of Janesville, and Virginia (William) Mullarkey of Sun Prairie, many other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Darlene Rudolph and Margaret Ann Schroeder, and two brothers, Martin and Ronald.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, Oct. 18, at 10 a.m. at the Sonnenburg Family Funeral Home, 801 E. Monowau St., Tomah. Pastor Phillip M. Enderle will officiate. Burial will be in the Warren-Mills Cemetery with military honors by the Grassman-Sowle-Larsen-Senz American Legion Post #201."
