Irma Ida BERG was born on 31 March 1913 in Gresham, York County, NE.1,3,5,27 She appeared in the census in 1930 in Ridgeville Township, Monroe County, WI.5 She appeared in the census in 1940 in Ridgeville Township, Monroe County, WI.6 Irma died on 11 March 2007 at the age of 93 in Tomah, Tomah Township, Monroe County, WI.3

Obituary Notes: "Irma Ida Bernhardt, 93, of Tomah, died Sunday, March 11, 2007, at Tomah Memorial Hospital. She was born March 31, 1913, in Gresham, NB, to Reverend C.E. and Helene (Gross) Berg. She moved with her family to Bristol, WI, and then to Tomah where her father was Pastor of St. John’s Ev. Lutheran Church at Ridgeville. On April 6, 1947, she married Louis Bernhardt with her father presiding. He preceded her in death April 11, 2002.

She is survived by her son, Robert of Madison; her daughter, Judith (Gary) Johnson of Woodbury, MN; three grandchildren, Aric Bernhardt of La Crosse and Brett and Amanda Johnson, both of Woodbury, MN; one great-granddaughter, Alexa Venezia of Woodbury, MN; two brothers, Carl Berg of Madison and Harold (Lucille) Berg of Melrose Park, IL; a brother-in-law, Wilbert (Opal) Bernhardt of Beloit, many nieces, nephews and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Louis; two brothers, Martin and Winnie; three sisters, Lydia Kortbein, Esther Roscovius and Alice Eagan.

The Christian love, care and concern she gave and showed as wife, homemaker, mom, grandma and great-grandma will be remembered and treasured by her family always.

Funeral services will be held Friday, March 16, at 11 a.m. at St. Paul Ev. Lutheran Church, 525 Superior Ave., Tomah. Pastor Donald R. Buch will officiate. Burial will be in Oak Grove Cemetery, Tomah.

Relatives and friends are invited to call at St. Paul Ev. Lutheran Church on Friday from 10 a.m. until time of the service.

Memorials may be given to St. Paul Ev. Lutheran Church Broadcast Fund.

The Sonnenburg Family Funeral Home, Tomah, is assisting the family with the arrangements."

Irma Ida BERG and Louis Alva BERNHARDT Jr. were married on 6 April 1947 in Ridgeville Township, Monroe County, WI.12,16,27,28 at St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church. Louis Alva BERNHARDT Jr., son of Johanus Ludwig George BERNHARDT and Anna Marie MARTEN, was born on 7 August 1910 in Wilton Township, Monroe County, WI.24 He was baptized on 25 September 1910 in Ridgeville Township, Monroe County, WI.29 at St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church. He appeared in the census in 1920 in Wilton Township, Monroe County, WI.26 Louis died on 11 April 2002 at the age of 91 in Tomah, Tomah Township, Monroe County, WI.3

Obituary Notes: "Louis Alva Bernhardt, 91, of Tomah, died Thursday, April 11, 2002, at the Tomah Health Care Center. He was born Aug. 7, 1910, in the town of Wilton to Louie and Anna (Marten) Bernhardt. He was baptized and confirmed at St. John's Ev. Lutheran Church, Ridgeville. He was united in marriage to Irma I. Berg on April 6, 1947, at Ridgeville, with the bride's father, Rev. C. E. Berg, presiding. He was a faithful member of St. Paul Ev. Lutheran Church, Tomah.

Louie was a WWII Army veteran, serving with the 430th Automatic Weapons Battalion as a first aid medic in France, Holland, Belgium and Germany. He received the Purple Heart and Bronze Star. He was a member of Curtis-McNutt VFW Post #1382 and the Grassman-Sowle-Larsen-Senz American Legion Post #201.

He began his career as a self-employed plasterer after his discharge. He plastered many of the new homes in the Tomah area and later worked for Cox Construction Company of Tomah.

He is survived by his devoted wife, Irma, of 55 years; his son, Robert, of Madison; his daughter, Judith (Gary) Johnson of Woodbury, Minn.; three grandchildren, Aric Bernhardt of La Crosse, Amanda and Brett Johnson, both of Woodbury, Minn.; one great-granddaughter, Alexa Venezia of Woodbury, Minn.; one brother, Wilbert (Opal) of Beloit; and a sister-in-law, Violet Bernhardt of Racine. He is also survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Louis was a wonderful, kind husband, dad, grandpa, and great-grandpa. He enjoyed all of God's creation, especially his family, his large vegetable garden, flowers and fishing.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Etta Pasch; five brothers, Avalt, Leonard, Merlin, Marvin and Gordon. Funeral services were held today, Monday, April 15, 11 A.M. at St. Paul Ev. Lutheran Church, Tomah. Pastor Donald R. Buch officiated. Burial was in Oak Grove Cemetery, Tomah, with military honors by Curtis McNutt VFW Post #1382." He was buried on 15 April 2002 in Tomah, Tomah Township, Monroe County, WI.3,7 in the Oak Grove Cemetery.
