108. John Anthony BETTHAUSER was born on 30 May 1934 in Tunnel City, Greenfield Township, Monroe County, WI.9,37 He died on 25 September 2007 at the age of 73 in La Crosse, La Crosse County, WI.37

Obituary Notes: "John A. Betthauser, age 73, of Tunnel City, WI, passed away on Tuesday, Sept. 25, 2007, at the St. Francis Healthcare Center in La Crosse, WI. He was born on May 30, 1934, in Tunnel City, Monroe County, WI, to Anthony and Marie (Becker) Betthauser. John was a 1952 graduate of Tomah High School. Following high school, he served in the United States Air Force until he received a medical honorable discharge in 1953.

He was united in marriage to Carol Webster on Sept. 28, 1957, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Tomah. John started his career working for Betthauser Lumber Company in 1954, where he worked until 1971. He then went to work for the Township of Greenfield as a patrolman, where he worked until 1996. He was also a member of the Oakdale LaGrange Volunteer Fire Department. John was a lifetime member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church. In his spare time, he enjoyed fishing, hunting, golfing, feeding and watching birds in his back yard. In the past few years, John enjoyed having morning coffee with his sister Jean and their many friends at McDonald’s. Most of all, he loved spending time with his grandchildren, family and his many friends.

He is survived by his wife, Carol of Tunnel City; his children, Paul (Roxie) Betthauser of Sparta, Keith (Shelly) Betthauser of Tomah, Julie (Steve) Schoonover of Tomah, and Amy (Clifford) Culpepper of Marshfield; grandchildren, Tasha, Torin, Tobey, Bradley and Lindsey Betthauser, Jason, Amber and Abby Schoonover, Corissa, Zachary and Jordan Koranda and Brandon Culpepper; sisters and brother, Margaret “Muggs” (William) Johnson, Jean (Allen) Lind, Robert (Theresa) Betthauser, Ann (Bernard) Hoffman, Carol (Vern) Shier, Ceil (Don) Christopherson and Ruth (Norbert) Siess; brother and sisters-in-law, Gene (Letha) Webster, Joan (Roger) Strom and Edith Webster; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Anthony and Marie (Becker) Betthauser; an infant granddaughter, Adrianne Betthauser; and an infant sister, Eleanor Betthauser.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, Sept. 29, at 10 a.m. at St. Mary Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Tomah. The Very Rev. Steven J. Kachel will officiate. Burial will follow in the Greenfield Cemetery near Tunnel City. Family and friends are invited for visitation on Friday, Sept. 28, 2007, from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. at the Torkelson Funeral Home in Tomah. Family and friends are also invited for visitation on Saturday from 9 a.m. until the time of service at the church.
