109. Robert James BETTHAUSER was born on 16 September 1935 in Tunnel City, Greenfield Township, Monroe County, WI.9,78 He died on 22 December 2021 at the age of 86.78 Obituary Notes: "Robert J. Betthauser, age 86, of Tomah, Wisconsin, passed away December 22, 2021. He was born September 16, 1935, to Anthony and Marie (Becker) Betthauser at home in Tunnel City, Wisconsin. Bob proudly served in the United States Army 24th Infantry in Korea.

He was united in marriage to Theresa Cocimano November 17, 1956, in Washington D.C. In 1957, they moved to Tomah where he began working at Fort McCoy. In 1958, they moved to Maryland for a short time before returning to the Tomah area. Bob retired from Fort McCoy May 3, 1988. Following his retirement, he worked as a mechanic and drove dump truck. He had a strong work ethic and was always working at least two jobs. Bob was very social and loved traveling around Tomah in his 1917 Model T with his dog Bandit by his side.

He is survived by his children, Elizabeth (Thomas) Hillman of Tomah, WI, Susan Betthauser of Tomah, WI, Michael Betthauser of Tomah, WI and Barbara (Steve) Courtney of Tomah, WI, grandchildren, Nick Knutson, Holly Rutchik, Scott Knutson, Mindi Courtney, Megan (Nick) Scherreiks, Daniel (Bernadette) Betthauser and Jenny Betthauser, Ashley and Erin, 9 great grandchildren, Teresa, Anna, Elena, Elizabeth and James Rutchik, Gavin Courtney, Mason, Maverick and Mila Scherreiks, his siblings, Jean (Allen) Lind, Carol (Vern) Shier and Ruth (Norbert) Seiss, many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Anthony and Marie, his wife, Theresa, his son, Bobby, siblings, Margaret “Muggs” Johnson, Ann Hoffman, Ceil Christopherson, John Betthauser and an infant sister, Eleanor Betthauser, and his co-pilot and best friend, Bandit, his dog.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held Tuesday, December 28, 2021, 11:00 a.m. at Queen of the Apostles Parish in Tomah. Monsignor David Kunz will officiate. Burial with full military honors will be held at the Greenfield Cemetery, Tunnel City, Wisconsin. Family and friends are invited for visitation Monday, December 27, 2021, from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at the Torkelson Funeral Home in Tomah. Family and friends are also invited for visitation on Tuesday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service at the church. The Torkelson Funeral Home of Tomah is assisting the family with arrangements."

Robert James BETTHAUSER and Theresa COCIMANO were married on 17 November 1956 in Washington, District of Columbia.12,78,79 at Holy Comforter Church. Theresa COCIMANO was born on 29 September 1936 in Washington, District of Columbia.12,80 She died on 7 October 2013 at the age of 77 in Tomah, Tomah Township, Monroe County, WI.80

Obituary Notes: "Theresa Ann Betthauser, 77, of Tomah, passed away Monday, Oct. 7, 2013, at the Serenity House in Tomah. She was born Sept. 29, 1936, in Washington D.C., to Rosalino and Mary Elsie (Brown) Cocimano.

Following high school, Theresa worked at the Pentagon in Professional Services. She was united in marriage to Robert J. Betthauser Nov. 17, 1956, in Washington D.C. T hey moved to Tomah, shortly after being married. Theresa worked at the Tomah VA Hospital until she began raising a family. She later worked at Fort McCoy for a few years. She was active in her children’s lives and worked in the school library and in the school district while they were growing up. In 1980, she went back to the VA where she worked until her retirement in 1996.

Theresa treasured the time she spent with her family more than anything. In her spare time she loved cooking and baking. She also enjoyed traveling to the ocean, the Boardwalk at Delaware, and to Florida, especially to Disney World and Epcot. Fall was her favorite time of year. She loved rides to see the fall colors. Theresa enjoyed gardening, flowers, going for walks, going to musicals, ballets and movies. S he also bowled in a bowling league for many years. She was an active member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and a member of the P.C.C.W. She will be deeply missed by her family and friends.

She is survived by her husband, Robert of Tomah; her children, Elizabeth (Thomas) Hillman of Tomah, Susan (Paul) Moser of Tomah, Barbara (Steven) Courtney of Tomah, Michael (Jill Cox) Betthauser of Tomah; grandchildren, Nicholas Knutson, Holly (Joseph) Rutchik, Scott Knutson, Mindi (Bryan) Courtney, Megan (Nick) Scherreiks, Daniel Betthauser, Jennifer Betthauser, Ashley Dechant and Erin Dechant; great-grandchildren, Teresa, Anna, Elena and Elizabeth Rutchik, Gavin Courtney, Mason Scherreiks and a baby boy Scherreiks on the way; her dog, Bandit; two sisters, Rosemary Cocimano of Silver Springs, Md., and Margaret (Dan) Fredericks of Seven Valleys, Pa.; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Rosalino and Mary; a son, Bobby; and a brother, Phillip.

Mass of Christian burial will be held at 11 a.m. today, Oct. 10, 2013, at St. Mary Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Tomah. Monsignor Richard Gilles will officiate. Burial will follow in the Greenfield Cemetery, Tunnel City, Wis. Visitation was held on Wednesday, Oct. 9."
