1. John "Valentine" BETTHAUSER was born in April 1825 in Amorbach, Hessen (Hesse) Province, Preussen (Prussia).1,2,3 (He was listed as "Valentine" in the 1900 Census.) (His birth place may have been Arnbach, Germany.) He emigrated in 1853 from Preussen (Prussia).3,4 (The 1900 Census listed his year of emigration as 1856, and indicated that he had been in America for 44 years.) He appeared in the census in 1900 in Oakdale Township, Monroe County, WI.3 He was living with his son Valentine and his family. Valentine appeared in the census in 1910 in Glendale Township, Monroe County, WI.5 He was living with his daughter Mary and her husband. He died in 1914 at the age of 89.1

John "Valentine" BETTHAUSER and Margaret SCHNEIDER were married in 1856.1,4 They had 14 children, 54 grandchildren and 180 great-grandchildren. Margaret SCHNEIDER died before June 1900.3 (Her husband was listed as a widower in the 1900 Census.) She was born in Preussen (Prussia).6
