68. LaVern Edward "Barney" BETTHAUSER was born on 11 June 1924 in Norwalk, Monroe County, WI.9,56 He appeared in the census in 1930 in Oakdale Township, Monroe County, WI.6 He died on 16 January 2014 at the age of 89 in La Crosse, La Crosse County, WI.56

Obituary Notes: "LaVern “Barney” Betthauser, 87, of Oakdale died Thursday, Jan. 16, 2014, at Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center, La Crosse.
He was born Dec. 12, 1926, to William and Rose (Kruk) Betthauser in Norwalk. He was a member of the Tomah Senior High School Class of 1944. He was united in marriage to Garnet Larson Oct. 24, 1951, at St. Mary Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. Together they farmed in the Oakdale area all their married life. LaVern was very civic minded. He served in the Township of Oakdale as a supervisor for 4 years starting in 1968 and was chairman for 17 years until 1989. He was on the Monroe County Board from 1992 to 2004 and served on numerous committees that included Highway, Property and Purchasing, Finance, Ag and Extension and Land Conservation. He was chairman of the board from 1998 to 2001. He was a member of the Camp Douglas Farmers Co-op Board for 32 years. In 1973 he was elected as director and in 1975 he was elected president which he held until 1992. He served as secretary from 1992 to 2003 and Vice President from 2003 to 2005. He drove school bus in the Tomah School District for many years. He belonged to a card club that has been meeting monthly for over 50 years that includes Jack Habelman, the late Duane Giraud, Edie Shie, Bob Rogge, Lloyd Mesner, and Wayne Birkeness. He was a faithful member of the St. Mary Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. Barney always had a good sense of humor and will be remembered for his “one liners”. He was an animal enthusiast and had a special place in his heart for his dogs and barn cats. He was a proud grandfather and the number #1 fan of his grandchildren. He could often be found at any of their events. He was a devoted husband, and a loving father, grandfather and brother.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Garnet, of Oakdale; 2 sons David (Jeri) of Tomah, and Mark (Kristi) of Tomah; a daughter, Jean (Jeff) Drinkman of Tomah; 8 grandchildren: Kevin and Kelsey, Maci and Brandon, Tanner, Taylor, Hannah and Cole; a brother, Carroll Betthauser of Oakdale; and a sister-in-law, Lillian Jensen, of Sparta; and nieces, nephews, and many other relatives and friends
He was preceded in death by his parents, his father and mother-in-law, Harry and Lucy Larson; brothers and sisters, Gerald (Evelyn) Betthauser, Gwen (Wendell) Hagen; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law Muriel and Evan Augustine, Richard and Karon Larson, Laverna and Ellis Williams, Stanley Larson and Ray Jensen.
A Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Jan. 20, 2014, at St. Mary Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Tomah. Father David Bruener will officiate. Burial will be in the Oakdale Cemetery."
