Elwin Lea BRIESKE and Murriel CALHOUN were married on 1 March 1946 in Iowa.8,34 Murriel CALHOUN, daughter of Frank W. CALHOUN and Mattie E. PATTERSON, was born on 25 September 1917 in Vernon County, WI.8 She died on 28 May 2004 at the age of 86 in Sparta, Sparta Township, Monroe County, WI.8

Obituary Notes: "Murriel M. Brieske, 86, of Norwalk and Sparta, died Friday, May 28, 2004, at Franciscan-Skemp Healthcare Center, Nursing Home Sparta. She was born Sept. 25, 1917, to Frank and Mattie (Patterson) Calhoun in Vernon County. She was united in marriage to Edwin L. Brieske on March 1, 1946, in Iowa. Murriel worked at Heilman IGA and Geier IGA as a cashier and for Spartek, Inc. in Sparta as an assembly line worker prior to retirement. After retirement, in addition to spending time with family, she enjoyed gardening and bird watching. She was a devoted and loving wife, mother and grandmother.

She is survived by her husband of 58 years, Edwin of Sparta; two sons, Curtis Brieske of Wilton and Roger Williams of Florida; three grandchildren, Nicky (Pete) Degenhardt of Wilton, Trisha Brieske of Norwalk, Tom Brieske of Wilton; six great-grandchildren; a daughter-in-law, Joan Brieske of Wilton; a sister, Josie Wilson of Viroqua, and other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two sons, Darold Brieske and DeWayne Williams; three sisters, Dott Dobbs, June VonRuden and Bonnie Felio; two brothers, Ben and Fred Calhoun.

Funeral services were held on Wednesday, June 2, at 11 a.m. at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Wilton. Vicar Ryan Fletcher officiate. Burial was in St. John the Baptist Catholic Cemetery, Wilton.

Visitation was at the Smith-Nelson Funeral Home, 702 Center St., Wilton, on Tuesday, June 1, from 4 until 8 p.m. and at the church on Wednesday from 10 a.m. until time of the service."
She was buried on 1 June 2004 in Wilton, Wilton Township, Monroe County, WI.8

Curtis E. "Curt" BRIESKE was born on 23 September 1946 in Sparta, Sparta Township, Monroe County, WI.50 He died on 13 September 2022 at the age of 75 in Norwalk, Monroe County, WI.50 Obituary Notes: "Curtis “Curt” Brieske, 75, of Norwalk, died on Tuesday, September 13, 2022. Curt was born to Edwin and Murriel (Calhoun) Brieske on September 23, 1946, in Sparta, Wisconsin.

After graduating from Royall High School in 1964, Curt began farming in Norwalk. Shortly thereafter, Curt proudly served his country in active duty, before returning home and joining the National Guard. During this time, Curt also served as a member of the Royall and Brookwood school boards. Curt would continue to work for his local school districts as a bus driver in Wilton for the next 11 years, and then in Brookwood. Before retiring in 2014, Curt also worked at United Co-op in Wilton with his niece, Nicky, for 25 years.

He was an avid supporter of the Falcon’s Booster Club and enjoyed attending the sporting events. He was a FFA Alumni. He was a member of the Hanson-Stark-Leith-Paeth-Wilton American Legion Post #508, a member of the Wilton Lion’s Club, and also served as the Wilton Village Clerk for 15 years. Curt was a quiet man, although he didn’t have a lot to say he enjoyed spending time with family and friends.

He is survived by his nieces and nephew: Nicky (Pete) Degenhardt of Wilton, Trisha (Doug) Short of Ontario, and Tom (Erica) Brieske of Wilton; a sister-in-law Joan Brieske; and 6 great-nephews and nieces, Brandi, Jordan, Zach, Cole, Christian, and Chelsie. He was preceded in death by his parents, and a brother Darold.

A memorial service will be held on Monday, September 19, 2022, at 11:00 A.M. at St. John’s the Baptist Church in Wilton. Father John Ofori-Domah will officiate. A burial will follow in the church cemetery with military honors Hanson-Stark-Leith-Paeth American Legion Post#508. Family and friends are invited for a time of visitation at the church a Monday from 9:00 A.M. until the time of the service. The Smith-Nelson Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
