Joseph Clemens BRIESKE Sr. was born in 1823 in Preussen (Prussia).^2,3 He emigrated in 1874 from Preussen (Prussia).⁴ He appeared in the census in 1880 in Ridgeville Township, Monroe County, WI.² His occupation was "Farmer." Joseph died on 18 June 1884 at the age of 61 in Wilton Township, Monroe County, WI.³ He was buried in Wilton Township, Monroe County, WI.³ in the St. Johns Cemetery. He has Ancestral File Number MCKW-T7W.

Joseph Clemens BRIESKE Sr. and Rosalia Theresa "Rosella" SCHMIDT were married on 20 November 1849 in Hermelsdorf, Kreis Naugard, Regierungsbezirk Stettin, Pommern (Pomerania) Province, Preussen (Prussia).^2,4,5 According to the 1900 Census, they had 14 children, of whom 10 were living at the time. According to the 1910, they had 14, and 9 were living.

Rosalia Theresa "Rosella" SCHMIDT, daughter of Andreas SCHMIDT and Ursula UNKNOWN (SCHMIDT), was born on 15 April 1827 in Kirschdorf, Allenstein Province, Ostpreussen (East Prussia) Province, Preussen (Prussia).^2,3,6 She lived in Ferrette, Haut-Rhin, Alsace, France in 1872. She appeared in the census in 1880 in Ridgeville Township, Monroe County, WI.² Rosella appeared in the census in 1900 in La Crosse, La Crosse County, WI.⁵ She was living with her daughter Julia and her children. She appeared in the census in April 1910 in La Crosse, La Crosse County, WI.⁷ She was living with her daughter Julia and her family. She died on 18 May 1910 at the age of 83 in La Crosse, La Crosse County, WI.^3,8

Obituary Notes: "Mrs. Rosella Briskie died this morning at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Julia Bergen, 1621 Jackson Street, after an illness of several years, aged 85 years. She is survived by four daughters and five sons, as follows: Mrs. Julia Bergen and Mrs. Mary Birnbaum of this city; Mrs. Theresa Bergen and Mrs. Anna Garske of Norwalk, Wis.; John of Wilton, Wis.; August, Stephen and Gustav of this city; and Benjamin of Marshaltown, Ia. The body will be taken to Wilton Friday morning for interment.

. Rosella was buried in Wilton Township, Monroe County, WI.³ in the St. Johns Cemetery. (Her surname is spelled "Schmeid" in some sources.)
