John CRAPP was born on 22 August 1828 in Cornwall County, England.2,3 He emigrated on 3 October 1854 from Cornwall County, England.1,2,3 Between June 1855 and 1884 he was a farmer in Monroe County, WI.1,4,5,6 He was one of the first settlers of Tomah, arriving in June 1855. He assisted Robert E. Gillette in building a log house, which was the first building erected in Tomah. He owned a 4-arcre farm in the southwest corner of Section 16. The 1860 Census indicates that he was farming in Tomah Township. John appeared in the census in 1860 in Tomah Township, Monroe County, WI.6 He appeared in the census in August 1869.7 He appeared in the census in 1870 in Lincoln Township, Monroe County, WI.8 John appeared in the census in 1880 in La Grange Township, Monroe County, WI.4 He died on 27 December 1897 at the age of 69 in Tomah, Tomah Township, Monroe County, WI.3,9,10

Obituary Notes: "Died, at his home in this city, on Monday evening, Dec. 27, Mr. John Crapp, aged 69 years, 4 months.

John Crapp was a native of England, born in Cornwall, Aug. 22, 1828. He was married to Jane Hicks, Aug 16, 1849, and five years afterward they came to this country, landing in New York, October 3, 1854. In June of the following year they came west and settled in Monroe County, when it was mostly a wilderness. He took up land at the head of Bear Creek, whre he resided until 1864, when he bought and moved upon a farm two miles west of this city, remaining there until 1884, when he came to this city.

To Mr. and Mrs. Crapp eight children were born, four of whom are living, viz: W. H. Crapp, of Ashland; Mrs. Wm. Barber, of West Superior; Mrs. C. W. Taft, of LaGrange; and Mrs. J. O. Johnson, of this city.

Mr. Crapp's health was been gradually failing for a few years, he being afflicted with lung trouble which finally developed into consumption. For the past year he has suffered much, though uncomplainingly, and was fully resigned when the final summons came.

In the death of Mr. Crapp, Tomah loses one of her old and well known citizens. Mr. Crapp has been active in local affairs and has served as alderman for several years.

The funeral took place on Thursday afternoon in the M. E. Church of which Mr. Crapp was a member. Rev. Chas. Butters conducted th services, speaking from the words 'I will not leave you comfortless, I will come to you.' The remains were borne from the house by members of the church, where, after the services they were taken in charge by the Knights of Pythias, and buried with the rites of the Order." He was buried in Tomah, Tomah Township, Monroe County, WI.11 in the Oak Grove Cemetery.

John CRAPP and Jane HICKS were married on 16 August 1849 in Cornwall County, England.1,3,12 Jane HICKS, daughter of John HICKS and Diana UNKNOWN (HICKS), was born on 3 June 1832 in Cornwall County, England.1,6,12 She emigrated on 3 October 1854 from Cornwall County, England.1,12 She appeared in the census in 1860 in Tomah Township, Monroe County, WI.6 Jane appeared in the census in 1870 in Lincoln Township, Monroe County, WI.8 She appeared in the census in 1880 in La Grange Township, Monroe County, WI.4 She appeared in the census in November 1902.13 Jane appeared in the census in 1910 in Tomah, Tomah Township, Monroe County, WI.14 She was living with her daughter Ida and her family during the 1910 Census. She died on 27 January 1918 at the age of 85.9,12 She was buried in Tomah, Tomah Township, Monroe County, WI.11,12 in the Oak Grove Cemetery.

CRAPP was born on 15 October 1850 in England, United Kingdom.1,9,12 He died on 28 August 1852 at the age of 1 in Wisconsin.1,9 He was buried in Tomah, Tomah Township, Monroe County, WI.11 in the Oak Grove Cemetery. According to the Oak Grove records, his was the first burial in the Cemetery.

Fred J. "Freddie" CRAPP was born on 9 April 1859 in Wisconsin.1,6,9 He was not listed with the family in the 1870 Census. He appeared in the census in 1860 in Tomah Township, Monroe County, WI.6 He died on 26 November 1863 at the age of 4.1,9 Freddie was buried in Tomah, Tomah Township, Monroe County, WI.11 in the Oak Grove Cemetery.
