Biographical Sketch: "George Frohmader, the efficient and popular Postmaster of Camp Douglas, and a member of the mercantile firm of Johnson & Frohmader, a leading business house of this place, was born in Sullivan, Jefferson County, Wisconsin, in 1861.

He was one of nine children, five sons and four daughters. He was reared in the occupation of farming, and was educated at the high school at Mauston and at the State Normal School at River Falls, two of the best institutions of learning in the State. He taught school very successfully for six winter terms, beginning at the age of eighteen years.

His first connection with the mercantile business was with the grocery house of A. A. Stevens & Sons, La Crosse, but he terminated his engagement with that firm to teach his home school at Clifton. The following Spring he began the grocery business at Bloomer, Chippewa County, Wisconsin, under the firm name of Frohmader & Sargeant, in which he continued for about a year, when he went to Camp Douglas, where he acted for three years in the capacity of bookkeeper for Mr. John Singleton.

On May 1, 1889, he engaged in business in Camp Douglas, under the firm name of Frohmader & Haskins, and in the fall of the same year, he was appointed Postmaster, to succeed B. M. Grover. He continued to act in both of these capacities, giving universal satisfaction, and meeting with flattering business success.

On August 10, 1891, a devastating fire in Camp Douglas destroyed every business house in the place; of course Frohmader & Haskins sustained a severe loss. On January 1, 1892, Mr. Frohmader formed a partnership with Mr. Johnson, with whom he is now successfully allied in business, enjoying on account of their liberal methods, uniform integrity and courteous manners, a large and lucrative trade.

On September 1, 1891, Mr. Frohmader was married to Miss Huldah Romanowsky, an estimable lady of Norwalk, Wisconsin.

Both as a business man and citizen, Mr. Frohmader possesses the confidence and esteem of his fellow citizens. Camp Douglas is a signal station of the weather bureau, and Mr. Frohmader displays flags of the signal service at that place. He is president of the Camp Douglas Republican League, and has always been a strong supporter of Republican principles. His success in life is entirely due to his own unassisted and persistent efforts, and he richly deserves the favors which fortune has seen fit to bestow upon him."
