27. Ethelyn G. GABOWER was born on 8 August 1909 in Monroe County, WI.25,31 (Her surname is spelled "Gabauer" in the Birth Registration Records. Her younger siblings are all listed as "Gabower" so their parents may have changed the spelling in about 1910.) She appeared in the census in 1910 in Oakdale Township, Monroe County, WI.9 She appeared in the census in 1920 in Oakdale Township, Monroe County, WI.16 Ethelyn graduated in 1927 in Tomah, Tomah Township, Monroe County, WI.57 from Tomah High School. She appeared in the census in 1930 in Oakdale Township, Monroe County, WI.17 She died on 16 July 2006 at the age of 96 in Sparta, Sparta Township, Monroe County, WI.25

Obituary Notes: "Ethelyn Gabower Mark, age 96, of Tomah, WI, passed away on Sunday, July 16, 2006, at the Franciscan Skemp Healthcare Center in Sparta, WI. She was born on Aug. 8, 1909, in the Township of Oakdale, Monroe County, WI, to Jesse and Emma (Rasch) Gabower.

She spent her entire life in the Tomah area, being educated in the schools of Monroe County and receiving a Bachelor of Education degree from the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse. She was married to Arthur Mark in 1934, he passed away in 1980. She taught in rural schools of Monroe County and the last 25 years of her career were spent as a first-grade teacher at Miller School in Tomah.

She was an active and dedicated member of the First United Methodist Church, the United Methodist Women and the Rebecca Circle. Ethelyn was also an honorary member of the Wisconsin Retired Educators, a 50-year member of the Order of Eastern Star, a member of the Hiawatha Bridge Club as well as other bridge groups. She also enjoyed gardening and quilting.

She leaves to mourn her passing, two granddaughters, Sharon (Douglas) Ott and their children Andrew, Tony and Lauren Ott of Oakdale, CA, and Sandra (Michael) Thompson and their children James, Justina, Jaquelyn and Joseph Thompson, all of Citrus Heights, CA.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur, and two sons, Richard and James; sisters Lillian Muehlenkamp, Jane Moreno, Arlys Mistele and Bernice Harte, and a brother, Al Gabower.

A memorial service was held on Tuesday, July 18, at 11 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church in Tomah. Pastor William Swan officiated. Burial followed in the Oakdale Cemetery. The Torkelson Funeral Home assisted the family with arrangements."

Ethelyn G. GABOWER and Arthur P. MARK were married in 1934.25 Arthur P. MARK was born in 1907.58 He died on 20 April 1980 at the age of 73.58
