Ewald August BLADO was born on 8 December 1911 in Norwalk, Monroe County, WI.3,18,31,74 He appeared in the census in 1930 in Tomah, Tomah Township, Monroe County, WI.6 He graduated in 1930 in Tomah, Tomah Township, Monroe County, WI.75 from Tomah High School. Ewald died on 18 December 2005 at the age of 94.31

Obituary Notes: "Ewald August Blado, age 94, passed away Dec. 18, 2005. He was born in Norwalk, WI, on his mother’s birthday, Dec. 8, 1911, to Rudolph and Emma Blado.

His family moved to Tomah in 1919 where he attended St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran School and Tomah High School. He graduated from Milwaukee Mollar Barber School in 1933 and worked in Tomah for two years as a barber. Ewald married Marie Pelz on June 14, 1936. Both attended Madison School for Cosmetology and obtained employment with Michaleen Beauty Salon in Racine. For the next seven years he was supervisor of 15 Michaleen Salons located in the Midwestern and Southern States. During the WWII years he worked for Young Radiator Co., Racine, making radiators for airplanes. They then returned to Tomah in 1946 and opened Maire Louise Beauty Salon at 1109-1/2 Superior. In 1960 he erected a new building on the “Old Town Pump” site in Tomah and established the Blado Fashion Shop & Beauty Salon, serving the Tomah area for 15 years. After his retirement, he purchased and operated Country View Estates Mobile Home Park, Tomah, until January 1998.

Ewald was a man of many interests. In his youth he sold produce for his mother, worked at Schultz Dime Store and assisted his father, Rudolph, in building bridges and sidewalks. He also enjoyed being a member of the Tomah Lions Club for 53 years. He was a faithful member of St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church, participating on many committees, including the building projects. His love and faithfulness to his Lord was always his first priority in life. He thanks his many operators he had the pleasure of working with and all the faithful customers who patronized the Blado Beauty Salon.

He is survived by his wife, Marie; son Dr. James (Carol) Blado, Tomah; daughter Marie (Christian Daniel) Stefferud, Redondo Beach, CA; six grandchildren: Lisa (Ramsey) Oliveras, Torrance, CA, Caren (Faling) Yang, La Crescent, MN, Leslye (Jeff) Ulman, Fremont, WI, Lori (Ryan) Erickson, White Bear Lake, MN, Christian (Theresa) Stefferud, Torrance, CA, Dana Blado, Tomah, WI; seven great-grandchildren: Brandon, Carlena and Dillon Yang, Jordyn, Jakob and Isaiah Ulman and Macy Oliveras; sisters-in-law Grace Blado, Hazel Blado and Edna Pelz; brother-in-law Leonard Smith and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters, Hilda Beede, Esther Koebernick, Viola Smith; two brothers, Harold Blado and Reuben Blado, and brother-in-law Carl Pelz.

Funeral services will be held Friday, Dec. 23, at 11 a.m. at St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church, 525 Superior Ave., Tomah. Family and friends are invited to visit at Sonnenburg Family Funeral Home, 801 E. Monowau St., Tomah, today (Thursday), Dec. 22, from 4 to 8 p.m. and at the church on Friday from 10 a.m. until time of the service. Pastor Donald R. Buch will officiate and burial will be at Oak Grove Cemetery, Tomah. Pallbearers: Christian Stefferud, Faling Yang, Jeff Ulman, Ryan Erickson, Ramsey Oliveras, Richard Koebernick."

Ewald August BLADO and Marie Louise PELZ were married on 14 June 1936 in Tomah, Tomah Township, Monroe County, WI.3,74,76 Marie Louise PELZ, daughter of William PELZ and Mathilda PAMAZAL, was born on 9 August 1914 in Mauston, Juneau County, WI.76,77 She died on 13 February 2013 at the age of 98 in Redondo Beach, Los Angeles County, CA.76

Obituary Notes: "Marie L. Blado, 98, of Tomah passed away Wednesday, Feb. 13, 2013, near her daughter's home in Redondo Beach, Calif. Marie Louise Blado (Pelz) was born Aug. 9, 1914, in Mauston, Wis., to William Pelz and Matilda (Pomazal) Pelz, the second of four children, three girls, Gertrude and Evelyn, and one boy, Carl, all now deceased. Matilda, mother and baby Evelyn died in the flu epidemic of 1918. Gertrude (6) Marie (4) and Carl (2) were left without a mother. She grew up in Tomah, where her father owned the Checker Board Restaurant.

Marie graduated from Tomah High in 1933 and after graduation she, along with Ewald Blado, went to Madison School of Cosmetology. They married on June 14, 1936, in Tomah and found employment with Michalean Beauty Salon in Madison. They soon moved to Racine, Wis. to manage several salons for the Michalean business. These salons were one of many in the Midwestern and Southern states and her husband, Ewald, went on the road to manage many salons for the Michalean Company while Marie managed the salons in Racine.
In 1944 Ewald moved his family to Tomah to open the Marie Louise Beauty Shop at 1109 1/2 Superior Ave. They then bought the Old Town Pump site and in 1960 built the Blado Fashion and Beauty Salon serving the Tomah area until 1974.
Marie often thought of the times she had no mother to love, comfort, or be there when times were tough. Yet, God guided her and was with her throughout her life. She didn’t become aware of her Loving God till she married Ewald and she became a very faithful member of St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, Tomah.
Marie loved working. She loved working alongside her husband, Ewald. She loved the people of Tomah, especially her customers that frequently came to the salon. She loved her family, her home, her church. Marie loved to get up early in the morning to start her day and when coming home at the end of day she would iron and clean her home. She was so very thankful to God for giving her a family, a home, and work to love.
Marie is survived by her two children, Dr. James Blado, (Carol Miller), Tomah, and Marie Stefferud (Christian “Dan” Stefferud), Redondo Beach, Calif.; Six grand-children, Lisa (Ramsey) Oliveras, Redondo Beach, Caren (Faling) Yang, La Crescent, Minn., Lesyle (Jeff) Ulman, Appleton, Wis., Lori (Ryan) Erickson, Forest Lake, Minn., Dana (Eric) Rady, Monico, Wis., Christian (Christy) Stefferud, Madison, Miss.; Twelve great-grandchildren, Brandon, Carlena, Dillon Yang, Jordyn, Jacob, Isaiah, Boaz Ulman, Malia, Samuel Erickson, Macy and Ramsey Oliveras, and Griffin Ronald Rady and a great-grandchild named Taylor Lindsey Stefferud due in April 2013. Sister in-law, Hazel Blado, Tomah; and many nieces and nephews.
Those who preceded her in death: her husband, Ewald; sisters, Evelyn and Gertrude; brother, Carl; a great-grandchild, Faith Rady; and many sisters in-law and brothers in-law.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, at the Torkelson Funeral Home in Tomah. Pastor Donald Buch will officiate. Burial will follow in the Oak Grove Cemetery, Tomah."
