Obituary Notes: "Neil C. Greeno, 75, a long-time resident of Bethany St. Joseph Care Center in La Crosse, died on Jan. 11, 2012.

He was born on April 24, 1936, to Richard and Mabel (Kellogg) Greeno in Camp Douglas. He was a graduate of Western Technical College in La Crosse.

Neil began a career in farming, but he was stricken with polio at age 20. This event changed the circumstances of his life but not his personality or his character. He was a cherished member of his large family and a large circle of friends. He had many interests and projects, the most characteristic being pen-and-ink drawings of the rural Wisconsin landscapes that he loved. Many of these became the annual Christmas cards that his family and friends looked forward to each year.

Neil is survived by four brothers and two sisters; George (Carol) of Wasilla, Alaska; Eugene (Arlene) of Camp Douglas, Julian (Joyce) of Wonewoc, Erma (Dell) Johnson, Whitehouse, Tenn., Monica (Karl) Weitzman of Albuquerque, N.M., and Gerald (Margaret) of Middleton. He also is survived by a sister-in-law, Eleanor Greeno of Tomah; many nieces; nephews; other relatives and friends, including a special friend, Linda Odya.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Arlyn.
The family wishes to express its deep appreciation to the staff of Bethany St. Joseph for the excellent care given to Neil over his many years there. Memorials may be given to the BSJ Auxiliary, 2501 Shelby Road, La Crosse Wis. 54601.

A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, Jan. 18, 2012, at 6 p.m. at the Bethany St. Joseph Care Center Chapel. Pastor Ron Nowland will officiate. Burial will be in the Wood Cemetery in Tomah. Family and friends are invited for visitation from 4 p.m. until the time of service at the chapel."
