Notes of Joyce Morehouse Wiebel: "Grandma finished High School and her family lived in Humbird, WI, in a nice home. After they were married, they lived across the street from her parents for some time.

She fell down the basement stairs at some point after their marriage and broke her back. She didn't go to the doctor and became very crippled. She also suffered with diabetes in her later years.

She was a good-hearted woman who always remembered everyone's birthdays, putting a little money in their birthday card."

"Grandpa quit school in the 8th grade and went to work for the Chicago and Northwestern Railroad for 18 years, followed by Gould in Lake City, MN. He lived in Lake City for many years until he moved to Polk County, WI, and entered an assisted living home.

Earlier in his life, he loved horses and fishing. He bought a quarterhorse, Shakey, and kept her at Pete and John's; grandma thought Shakey belonged to them. He also loved fishing, and took me out on Lake Pepin many times. He knew that I liked Twinkies, so he would stock up and out we'd go to catch some fish. Once I got the hook caught in my head, and he got it our with the pliers. That was enough fishing for me that day.

One year when we were kids, Grandpa played Santa Claus. We recognized his boots and he made up this wild story about Santa stealing his boots.

He always made a lunch for us when we visited. He would put on cheese, sausage, and crackers, and have cookies and Twinkies. He did the cooking at their house because Grandma was so crippled. Their refrigerator had a lock on it so that Duane wouldn't steal all the food out of it.

Grandpa had large cell lung cancer. It was operable and was removed once, but was said to have come back. But it didn't cause his death. He lived a good long life."
