John Raymond "Johnny" CLAY Jr. was born on 15 June 1908 in Monroe County, WI.76,99 He appeared in the census in 1910 in Lincoln Township, Monroe County, WI.30 He appeared in the census in 1920 in La Grange Township, Monroe County, WI.20 John graduated in 1925 in Tomah, Tomah Township, Monroe County, WI.191 from Tomah High School. He appeared in the census in 1930 in La Grange Township, Monroe County, WI.46 Between 1932 and 1988 he was a farmer in Kirby, Lincoln Township, Monroe County, WI.99 John died on 29 June 1992 at the age of 84 in Tomah, Tomah Township, Monroe County, WI.99 He was buried on 1 July 1992 in La Grange Township, Monroe County, WI.192 in the LaGrange Township Cemetery.

John Raymond "Johnny" CLAY Jr. and Ruby B. ROSCOVIUS were married on 16 November 1932 in Kirby, Lincoln Township, Monroe County, WI.99,193 Ruby B. ROSCOVIUS, daughter of Alfred Reinhold ROSCOVIUS and Emilie Friedericke Alwine MATZKE, was born about 1914 in Greenfield Township, Monroe County, WI.46 She appeared in the census in 1930 in Greenfield Township, Monroe County, WI.46 After 1990 she was a writer for the Tomah Journal in Tomah, Tomah Township, Monroe County, WI.194 and periodically wrote a column entiteld "Reflections" about her early life. She was a member of the "Tomah Writers Group." Ruby died on 7 April 2014 at the age of 100 in Tomah, Tomah Township, Monroe County, WI.195

Obituary Notes: "Ruby B. Clay, 100, of Tomah died Monday, April 7, 2014, at Close to Home. She was born Jan. 25, 1914, to Alfred and Alvina Roscovius.

On Nov. 16, 1932, Ruby was united in marriage to John R. Clay at St. Matthew Ev. Lutheran Church, in the Township of Kirby. He preceded her in death June 29, 1992. Four children were born to this marriage.

Together, Ruby and John farmed north of Tomah, until 1988, when they moved into Tomah. John and Ruby were instrumental in the origination and leadership of the La Grange 4-H Club. Ruby was a member of the Monroe County Homemakers and the local writers group. She was a faithful and devoted member of St. Paul Ev. Lutheran Church, and served on the Mission Circles and the Ladies Aid. Ruby’s greatest joy was the ability to make special occasion greeting cards with verses she composed. She enjoyed her home card business and the opportunity to meet many new friends within and outside the local community.

She is survived by three children, Donna (Harverd) Wagner of Tomah, Joyce (Allan) Bringe of Madison, Wis., and Surprise, Ariz., and John H. (Joan) of Ostrander, Minn.; eight grandchildren, Linda (Ted Mitiu) Wagner of Cary, Ill., Cindy (David) Engstrom of Tomah, Jon (Suzanne) Wagner of Tomah, Dr. Ann (Rick) Schmidt of Madison, Neal (Lida) Bringe of Colorado, Anne (Jeff) Cernyar of Nairobi, Kenya, Emily (Sam) Mulder of Albuquerque, N.M., and Laura (Justin) Sturgis of Albuquerque; 16 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild; a sister-in-law, Eva Clay of Sparta; many other nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.

In addition to her husband she was preceded in death by a four-year-old daughter, Grace; four brothers and their wives, Otto (Irma), Edgar (Ella), Leonard (Alice) and Howard Roscovius; a sister and her husband Viola (Lawrence) Hart; her sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Sylvia (Gervase) Thompson, Lorene (William) Schone, Vivian (Earl) Clay and Donald Clay.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 12, at Sonnenburg Family Funeral Home, 801 E. Monowau St., Tomah. Pastor David T. Brandt will officiate. Burial will be in LaGrange Cemetery."
