He appeared in the census in 1810 in Fayston Township, Chittenden County, VT.256 He appeared in the census in 1820 in Fayston Township, Washington County, VT.264 John appeared in the census in 1830 in Fayston Township, Washington County, VT.257 He is listed as the head of household (under the name "Chandler Griggs") because his father had died and he was the oldest child. He was not married.

Included in the Census were 1 male, age under 5 (his youngest brother Stephen Roswell); one male, age 15-20 (his brother Lucius); one male, age 20-30 (himself); one female, age 5-10 (his sister Rhoda); two females, age 15-20 (his sisters Susan and Sarah); one female, age 20-30 (his sister Lucinda); and one female, age 40-50 (his mother, Rhoda). His sister, Susan, age 34, lived in the house next door. He appeared in the census in 1860 in Fayston Township, Washington County, VT.260 His household consisted of John Chandler; his wife Lydia; their children Theo, John Chandler, Jr., and Julia; his mother, Rhoda; his sister, Susan; Hiram Dyke, a "farm laborer;" and Laura Howe, age 23, the daughter of his sister, Lucinda. He died on 2 October 1861 at the age of 53 in Fayston Township, Washington County, VT.134,250,261,320 John was buried in Irasville, Waitsfield Township, Washington County, VT.261 in the Irasville Cemetery. BIXBY were married on 27 May 1834 in Fayston Township, Washington County, VT.250,262,263,319 According to an article in the Vermont Historical Library, "The Griggs and Bixby families were 'pioneers' of Fayston. Both families were strong and active in the Methodist faith." Lydia B. BIXBY, daughter of Theophilus BIXBY and Anna FISKE, was born on 23 February 1812 in Roxbury, Suffolk County, MA.41,250,259,261,319 She appeared in the census in 1840 in Fayston Township, Washington County, VT.258 She appeared in the census in 1850 in Fayston Township, Washington County, VT.259 Lydia appeared in the census in 1860 in Fayston Township, Washington County, VT.260 She appeared in the census in 1880 in Fayston Township, Washington County, VT.321 She was living with her daughter Anna and her family. Her name was listed as "Lydia Ward." She died on 1 September 1887 at the age of 75 in Fayston Township, Washington County, VT.250,261,319 Lydia was buried in Irasville, Waitsfield Township, Washington County, VT.261 in the Irasville Cemetery.
