876. Dr. William Orlando GRIGGS was born on 5 December 1845 in Philadelphia, Philadelphia County, PA.165,236 He died on 21 February 1915 at the age of 69 in Philadelphia, Philadelphia County, PA.165,236

Obituary Notes: "He is the son of Timothy B. and Adele Griffith Griggs, and the husband of Mary Anna Bentley Griggs.

Dr. William O. Griggs graduated from Jefferson Medical College with the class of 1866. He also attended the Hahnemann Medical College.

In 1871, Dr. Griggs wrote a piece for "The American Journal of Homoeopathic Materia Medica" stating that he used sarsaparilla to successfully treat a patient's neuralgia.

In 1884, Dr. and Mrs. Griggs moved residences from 716 Buttonwood St. to 509 N. Franklin St., Philadelphia, and the 1898 Boyd Blue Book of "elite" Philadelphians announced the Griggs' receiving day as Thursday.

Dr. Griggs became a life member of the Franklin Institute in November, 1889, and was elected to membership in its Committee on Science and the Arts in 1903, serving as chairman of the committee in 1907. He was a photographic enthusiast, reading at least one paper on the subject before the Photographic Section of the Franklin Institute prior to 1909. He was also greatly interested in firearms; his collection was given to the armory of the Second Regiment of the National Guard of Pennsylvania prior to his death.

He died at age 70, in Philadelphia, on February 21, 1915, of heart disease."
