She appeared in the census in 1940 in Tomah, Tomah Township, Monroe County, WI.627 (She was listed as a "Son.") She appeared in the census in 1950 in Tomah, Tomah Township, Monroe County, WI.628 Carol graduated in 1953 in Tomah, Tomah Township, Monroe County, WI.926,927 from Tomah High School. She died on 31 January 2019 at the age of 83 in Sparta, Sparta Township, Monroe County, WI.925

Obituary Notes: "Carol J. (Griggs) Roeske, 83, of Sparta, passed away Thursday, January 31, 2019 at BridgePath Assisted Living, Sparta, surrounded by her family.    She was born April 15, 1935 to the late Claire and Grace (Kuckuck) Griggs in Tomah.

Carol grew up in the Tomah area and graduated from Tomah High School. She married Arlan Roeske on October 27, 1956 at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church in Tomah. Arlan preceded her in death on April 30, 2011. Carol was a long time servant of Trinity Lutheran Church in Sparta. She was also active in 4H and the Sparta Lioness group. Carol enjoyed her flowers, baking, sewing, dancing, and making Christmas candies. She was very proud of her apron collection.

Carol is survived by her two children, Michael (Betty) Roeske and Kathryn Baumbach; three grandchildren, Daniel (Susan) Roeske; Brandon (Emily) Baumbach and their children, Emma, Evie, Alexis, and Beau; Amy (Kelly) Anderson and their son, Nolan Anderson. She is further survived by her sister, Beverly Drew; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Arlan; parents, Claire and Grace; siblings, Harold, Ruth, Lyle, Elva, and Claire Jr.

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, February 5, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Sparta, with Reverend Mark Kvale officiating. Burial will follow in Mt. Hope Cemetery, Sparta."

Carol Jenelle GRIGGS (~) and Arlan Lee ROESKE were married on 27 October 1956 in Tomah, Tomah Township, Monroe County, WI.364,665,925 Arlan Lee ROESKE, son of Wilhelm Carl ROESKE and Sylvia Vivian BROOKS, was born on 18 January 1935 in Sparta, Sparta Township, Monroe County, WI.649 at St. Mary's Hospital. He appeared in the census in 1940 in Adrian Township, Monroe County, WI.122 He appeared in the census in 1950 in Adrian Township, Monroe County, WI.122 After 1953 Arlan was in Monroe County, WI.928 He worked as a farmer, as a manager of a farm store for 15 years, and as a manager of the Band Box Dry Cleaning plant in Tomah for 15 years. He died on 30 April 2011 at the age of 76 in La Crosse, La Crosse County, WI.928

Obituary Notes: "Arlan L. Roeske, 76, of Sparta, passed into our Lord God’s care with family close by his side on Saturday, April 30, 2011, at Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center, La Crosse. He was born on Jan. 18, 1935, in Sparta to William C. and Sylvia V. (Brooks) Roeske. He grew up in Sparta and graduated from Sparta High School in 1953. He attended Reese Auctioneer School in Iowa. He farmed on the family farm in Coles Valley until 1963.

He married Carol Griggs on Oct. 27, 1956, at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church in Tomah. They purchased their own farm in West Beaver Creek on April 19, 1963, where they still reside.

He was a member of the Sparta Lions Club and served as past president, a member of the West Beaver Creek Community Club, 4-H, Mt. Hope Cemetery Board and Erv’s Rural Fire Department of Sparta.

He chaperoned the Sparta High School band trip for their children in 1976 and enjoyed showing cattle and horses at the Monroe County Fair.

Arlan enjoyed horses, hunting, dancing, playing cards and fishing.

He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Carol Roeske of Sparta; his children, Michael C. (special friend, Jane Hendrickson) Roeske of Sparta and Kathryn L. Roeske of Sparta; grandchildren Daniel (fiance, Susan Wellhoefer) Roeske of Sheboygan, Amy (Kelly) Anderson of Sparta and Brandon (fiance, Emily Johnston) Baumbach of Everett, Wash.; great-grandchildren, Emma Smith of Illinois and Evie Baumbach of Oregon; his mother, Sylvia Roeske of Sparta; sisters Jane (Michael) Finn of Tomah and Janet (Dan) Hoag of Oakdale; brother Harlan (Elizabeth) Roeske of Rocton, Ill.; many nieces, nephews and many other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his father; infant brother Dennis Roeske; and a sister, Betty Pfenning.

A memorial service was held Tuesday, May 3 at 11 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church, Sparta, with the Reverend Mark Carr officiating. Burial was in the Mt. Hope Cemetery, Sparta.
