1. Patrick J. "Pat" GRIMES¹ was born on 11 November 1845 in Ireland.^2,3,4,5 (According to the 1900 Census, both of his parents were born in Ireland.) (He was listed as age 30 in the 1880 Census, indicating a birth year of about 1850.)

(The 1910 Census for Greenfield Township, Monroe County, WI contains the household of Edward Grimes, Sr., age 84, born in Ireland, emigrated in 1855, a Widower; and his son Edward Grimes, Jr., age 48, born in Indiana, Single, and occupation "Farmer, General Farm." They may have been related.)

(The same family is listed in the 1880 Census in Greenfield Township. Father, Edward; mother, Catherine; and children John, Peter, Edward Jr., Margaret, Ellen, Rose and Agnes.) He emigrated in 1866 from Ireland.² (He cannot be located anywhere in the U.S. in the 1870 Census.)
He appeared in the census in 1880 in Leon Township, Monroe County, WI.³ He was living in the household of John and Ann Jones and his occupation was "Farm Labor." His future wife, "Mary Simmons," was a "House Keeper" in the same household. Pat appeared in the census in 1900 in Leon Township, Monroe County, WI.² His occupation was "Day Laborer." He appeared in the census in 1905 in Minocqua, Oneida County, WI.⁶ He was described as a "Servant" in the household of Henry and Mattie Evenson and his occupation was "Farm Laborer." He was believed to have been married at the time, but his wife was not with him.

(He cannot be located in the 1910 or later Census.) He died on 17 August 1919 at the age of 73 in Chicago, Cook County, IL.^5,7 (His wife was listed as a Widow in the 1920 Census.) Pat has Ancestral File Number MF13-VRR.

Patrick J. "Pat" GRIMES and Mary SIMONSON were married in 1884.² (According to the 1900 Census, they had 7 children, of whom 4 were living at the time.) Mary SIMONSON¹, daughter of Peter SIMONSON and (Unknown) UNKNOWN (SIMONSON), was born on 13 May 1860 in Christiana, Norway.^2,8,9 (She was listed in the 1880 Census as age 22.) She emigrated in 1874 from Norway.¹ She appeared in the census in 1880 in Leon Township, Monroe County, WI.³ She was living in the household of John and Ann Jones and her occupation was "House Keeper." Mary appeared in the census in 1900 in Leon Township, Monroe County, WI.² (She cannot be located in the 1910 Census.)
She appeared in the census in 1920 in Leon Township, Monroe County, WI.¹ She was a Widow. She appeared in the census in 1930 in Chicago, Cook County, IL.¹⁰ She and her daughter Anna were living with a nephew, John J. Hayes. She was a Widow. Mary appeared in the census in 1940 in Chicago, Cook County, IL.¹¹ She was a Widow and was living with her daughter, Anna. She died on 18 September 1945 at the age of 85 in Chicago, Cook County, IL.^8,9 She was buried on 20 September 1945 in Evergreen Park, Cook County, IL.⁹ in the Saint Mary Catholic Cemetery and Mausoleum. Mary has Ancestral File Number MF13-VR6.
