Claude Samual GRISWOLD⁹⁸ was born on 25 April 1887 in Brady Township, Kalamazoo County, MI.^{54,96,134,135} He appeared in the census in 1900 in Fulton, Wakeshma Township, Kalamazoo County, MI.⁵⁴ He appeared in the census in 1910 in Battle Creek, Battle Creek Township, Calhoun County, MI.¹³⁶ He was a "Boarder" at the American Hotel on West Jackson Street and his occupation was "Driver, City Delivery." (He was listed as "Single," although he is believed to have married before then.) Claude appeared in the census in 1920 in Battle Creek Township, Calhoun County, MI.¹³⁷ He, his wife and son, Harold, were "Roomers" on Upton Avenue. His occupation was "Mechanic, Stove Works." He appeared in the census in 1930 in Battle Creek Township, Calhoun County, MI.¹³⁸ He and his wife were living in the household of LeGrand and Lillie Clapper and his occupation was "Ferrinau (?), School Board." He appeared in the census in 1940 in Battle Creek Township, Calhoun County, MI.⁹⁰ Claude died on 9 June 1974 at the age of 87 in Fulton, Wakeshma Township, Kalamazoo County, MI.¹³⁴ He was buried in Fulton, Wakeshma Township, Kalamazoo County, MI.⁹⁰

Claude Samual GRISWOLD and Abbie Pearl DOLPHIN were married on 22 March 1911 in Battle Creek, Battle Creek Township, Calhoun County, MI.^97,139 (According to the 1930 Census, he was age 24 at the time of his 1st marriage, and she was 20. So, she must have had a prior marriage in about 1903.) Abbie Pearl DOLPHIN was born on 20 September 1882 in Ionia, Ionia Township, Ionia County, MI.¹³⁹ Her name was listed as "Abbey" in the 1920 Census, and as "Abbie" in 1930. She was listed as age 47 in the 1930 Census, indicating a birth year of about 1882. (According to the 1920 Census, her parents were both born in Michigan; according to the 1930, her father was born in Vermont and her mother in Maine.)

. She appeared in the census in 1920 in Battle Creek Township, Calhoun County, MI.¹³⁷ Her occupation was "Seamstress, Corset Factory." She appeared in the census in 1930 in Battle Creek Township, Calhoun County, MI.¹³⁹ Abbie died on 20 September 1946 at the age of 64 in Battle Creek, Battle Creek Township, Calhoun County, MI.¹⁴⁰

Claude Samual GRISWOLD and Abbie Pearl DOLPHIN had the following children:

Harold GRISWOLD was born about 1906 in Michigan.^137,138 It is likely that he was the son of a 1st marriage of his mother. The 1930 Census indicated that she was age 20 at the time of that marriage, which would have been in about 1903. She did not marry Claude until about 1911, when he was age 24.

Harold cannot be located in the 1910 Census, probably because he would have been listed under his mother's 1st marriage surname.

He was not listed with his parents during the 1930 Census, and cannot be located anywhere in Michigan.
