7. Mary GRISWOLD was born on 1 June 1827 in West Almond Township, Allegany County, NY.2,36 (This is a picture of the cemetery where she is buried.)

(The 1900 Census listed her birth date as June 1826; that is believed to be an error because her brother Hiram's book listed it as June 1827.) She appeared in the census in 1830 in Almond Township, Allegany County, NY.15 She appeared in the census in 1840 in Burns Township, Allegany County, NY.16 Mary appeared in the census in 1850 in Howard, Steuben County, NY.41 She appeared in the census in 1860 in Howard, Steuben County, NY.21 (She and her family cannot be located in the 1870 Census.) She lived at her home in Brady Township, Kalamazoo County, MI between 1866 and 1901.28,36 Mary appeared in the census in 1880 in Brady Township, Kalamazoo County, MI.53 She was a Widow and was living with her daughter Henriette and her children. She appeared in the census in 1900 in Brady Township, Kalamazoo County, MI.11,54 She was living with her daughter Henriette and her grandson Fay. She lived at her home in West Almond Township, Allegany County, NY after April 1901.10,28,36 She was living in Michigan when her sister Hannah Jane died in June 1900. She moved back to New York in the spring of 1901, where she was living when her brother Samuel died in September 1902. Mary died on 17 April 1905 at the age of 77 in West Almond Township, Allegany County, NY.28,55,56 Obituary Notes: "Mrs. Mary Ward was born in West Almond, N.Y., June 1st, 1827, and died in West Almond April 17, 1905, after a brief illness from lagrippe. Aged 77 years, 10 mo's and 17 days. In 1845 she became married to Zenas Ward. To this union were born to them four children, two of which died in infancy. In the fall of 1866, they moved to the Township of Brady, Mich. In the spring of 1901 she returned to West Almond and lived with her sister, Mrs. Harriet Evans till she was called to her last home.

In early youth she was converted and joined the M. E. Church, in which she lived a faithful and consistent life. Her last illness was brief, but full suffering, all of which she bore with marked Christian fortitude. Her funeral was held from the house of her sister and nephew, Charles Evans, Wednesday, April 19, at 2 P.M., amid a large gathering of friends and neighbors. Rev. E. J. Whitney, her pastor, officiating.

There are left to mourn her loss one sister, Mrs. Harriet Evans and one brother, Hiram Griswold, of Fulton, Mich. The interment was in the Angelica Cemetery."

Obituary Notes: "Born in West Almond, June 1, 1827, to Samuel J. and Clarissa Griswold; died in West Almond April 17, 1905, after a long illness from LaGrippe. She was 77 years, ten months and 17 days. In 1845 married to Zenas Ward. To this union were born to them four children, two of which died in infancy. In the fall of 1866, they moved to the Township of Brady, Michigan. In the spring of 1901, she returned to West Almond and lived with her sister, Mrs. Harriet Evans, till she was called to her last home. Survivors: Mrs. Harriet Evans, and one brother, Hiram Griswold of Fulton, Michigan. The interment was in the Angelica Cemetery (Lot 158)." She was buried in Angelica Township, Allegany County, NY.11,36,57 in the "Until the Day Dawn" Cemetery.

Mary GRISWOLD and Zenas WARD were married in 1845.28,36 Zenas WARD was born about 1815 in New York.21,41 He appeared in the census in 1850 in Howard, Steuben County, NY.41 Their household consisted of Zenas, age 35; Mary, age 25; and their daughters, Jane, age 3; and Henriette, age 2. His occupation was "Farmer." He appeared in the census in 1860 in Howard, Steuben County, NY.21 Living in his household were his wife, his two oldest children and his mother-in-law, Clarissa Griswold. His occupation was "Farmer." Zenas died before June 1880 at the age of 65 in Brady Township, Kalamazoo County, MI.10,49 His wife was listed as a Widow in the 1880 Census.
