Edward Louis HABELMAN and Shirley Marie GUDBAUR were married on 6 May 1955 in Sparta, Sparta Township, Monroe County, WI.41,49 Shirley Marie GUDBAUR, daughter of Ralph GUDBAUR and Gladys MOLSTAD, was born on 29 November 1933 in Sparta, Sparta Township, Monroe County, WI.41 She died on 4 April 2006 at the age of 72 in La Crosse, La Crosse County, WI.41

Obituary Notes: "La Crosse/Black River Falls, WI - Shirley M. Habelman, 72, of La Crosse and formerly of Black River Falls, died Tuesday evening, April 4, 2006, in Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center, La Crosse. The former Shirley M. Gudbaur was born on Nov. 29, 1933, in Sparta to Ralph and Gladys (Molstad) Gudbaur. She was raised in the Sparta area and graduated from Sparta High School. She later attended La Crosse State Teachers College. Shirley married Edward Habelman on May 6, 1955, in Sparta. The couple lived on the Habelman Brothers Company cranberry marsh in rural Black River Falls for 41 years. They later divided their time between their residence in Black River Falls and their condominium in La Crosse. Edward Habelman died on July 9, 1999. Following the death of her husband, Edward, Shirley became a full-time resident of La Crosse.

As a young woman, she taught rural school at the Coles Valley School for two years. She also was a former 4-H leader. Shirley was a member of the Black River Falls United Methodist Church and St. Luke’s United Methodist Church of La Crosse. She was a former member of the Jackson County Homemakers, the Millston Women’s Club and the Pine Hill Women’s Club. When she was not enjoying the company of family and friends, Shirley enjoyed gardening, cooking, household crafts and was an avid reader. She and her late husband, Edward, also enjoyed golfing for several years.

Survivors include a son, Jeffrey of Black River Falls; a daughter, Julie Habelman of La Crosse; and two brothers, Rod (Maxine) Gudbaur of Sparta and Alan Gudbaur of Racine.

Memorial services for Shirley M. Habelman will be at 3 p.m. on Sunday, April 23, at the Black River Falls United Methodist Church. The Rev. Aaron Alfred and Dr. Domnik Israel will officiate. Family and friends are invited for visitation on Sunday, April 23, from 2 p.m. until time of the services. Memorials may be given to either the Black River Falls United Methodist Church, St. Luke’s United Methodist Church, or the American Diabetes Association. The Buswell Funeral Home, Black River Falls is assisting the family with arrangements."
