74. Helen J. BATTEN41 was born on 5 July 1932. She graduated in 1949 in Tomah, Tomah Township, Monroe County, WI.41 from Tomah High School. She died on 29 September 2005 at the age of 73 in Tomah, Tomah Township, Monroe County, WI.41

Obituary Notes: "Helen J. Johnson, age 73, of Tomah, passed away on Sept. 29, 2005, at the Serenity House in Tomah. She was the middle child of three girls born to Charles and Ruth (Bruder) Batten on July 5, 1932. Her father passed away when she was 2½ years old. She was raised in the wonderful and caring community of Shennington, Wis., by her mom with her two sisters, Lois and Phyllis.
When Helen was in 6th grade, the family moved to Sparta. At the age of 15, the family moved back to Tomah. Helen was a 1949 graduate of the Tomah High School. Following graduation, she went to work for Wisconsin Bell in Tomah and was later transferred to Madison for a few years until being transferred back to Tomah. She worked for Wisconsin Bell until the office closed in 1965. In 1959, she was united in marriage to Robert Johnson; to this union a daughter, Sandra, was born.
After leaving Wisconsin Bell, Helen worked for the Tomah School District in the food service department for many years as a baker. She retired at the age of 65, and enjoyed spending time in her yard, growing African violets, raising geraniums from seeds, crocheting, watching Brewer and Packer games and reading poetry books. Helen currently resided in a great old six-bedroom home in North Tomah, with five beautiful "kitties."
She is survived by her husband, Robert Johnson of Tomah; a daughter, Sandra (Darren) Hartman of Chippewa Falls; two granddaughters, Bonnie and Rachel; two sisters, Lois Hascek and Phyllis Snider, both of Tomah; her step-father, Marty Riggs of Kendall; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her mother, Ruth Riggs, and father, Charles Batten.
Funeral services were held today (Monday), Oct. 3, at 11 a.m. at the Torkelson Funeral Home in Tomah. Pastor Edwin Stigen officiated. Burial followed in the LaGrange Cemetery. Family and friends called on Sunday, Oct. 2, from 1 p.m. until 3 p.m. at the Torkelson Funeral Home in Tomah and today from 10 a.m. until the time of service at the funeral home."
