221. Bruce Vernon HILLIKER was born about 1944.159 He died on 7 August 2014 at the age of 70 in Reno, Washoe County, NV.159

Bruce graduated from Monona Grove High School in Madison, Wis., in 1962. He served in the U.S. Army and graduated from the Defense Language Institute, West Coast Branch, Monterey, Calif., after a year of intensive training in Russian. The balance of Bruce’s military time was spent as a Russian linguist with the Army Security Agency in the Harz Mountains of Germany, near the Czechoslovakian border. He was honorably discharged from the Army in 1965.

Bruce attended the University of Wisconsin in Madison for two and a half years before moving to Reno, where he resided until the time of his passing. While in Reno, Bruce worked for AT&T for 20 years before retiring. He also worked for a number of casinos and managed hospitality services for the Reno Performing Arts Center.

Bruce is survived by his wife, Jeri Hilliker; stepdaughter, Jill Dumas; grandchildren, Chris (Lyndsey) Dumas and Ashley (David) Vaughn; great-grandchildren, Kaelyn and Chase Dumas and Kaleb Vaughn; and his brother, Richard L. Hilliker of Black River Falls.
Bruce was preceded in death by his parents, Jane and Leigh Hilliker of Tomah.

One of Bruce’s nephews provided an apt description of Bruce, calling him a “renegade irreverent.” Bruce would have liked that tribute.

A celebration of Bruce’s life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, buy a drink for a friend or donate to Gentiva Hospital, Sparks, Nevada."
