Elinor Maude HONISH was born on 5 October 1918 in Oakdale, Oakdale Township, Monroe County, WI.18,23,55 She appeared in the census in 1920 in Clifton Township, Monroe County, WI.18 She appeared in the census in 1930 in Clifton Township, Monroe County, WI.14 Elinor died on 9 June 2016 at the age of 97 in Middleton, Dane County, WI.55

Obituary Notes: "Elinor Honish McPhail, 97, of Middleton formerly of Clifton died peacefully Saturday, July 9, 2016. She was born Oct. 5, 1918, in Oakdale, Monroe County, Wisconsin, the third child of Alice Frohmader Honish and Joseph Honish.

Elinor graduated in 1936, from Tomah High School, the class valedictorian. She began her life of hard work at the height of the Depression, moving from Sparta, to Madison, Wis., to Washington D.C., where she met her husband John Finley McPhail Jr. of Nashville, Tenn. Elinor and Johnny were married April 18, 1945, in Tonopah, Nev. Her marriage took her around the country to Ohio, Georgia, Louisiana, Florida, New York State, and Maryland. Elinor and Johnny moved to Necedah after their retirement from Bechtel Power Corporation, and U.S. Postal Service, respectively. Johnny died Dec. 14, 1992.
Elinor’s life was brightened by her many friends, especially April Laverdure of Necedah, and her furry feline grandchild, Mokee Woodhouse, to whom Elinor was Grandmeow. During the last year of her life, Elinor moved into Brookdale Century Middleton Assisted Living, where the loving and caring staff became family to her. At the end of her life, she was also cared for by the wonderful staff of Agrace Hospice.
She is survived by her children and their spouses, Dr. John Finley (Micki) McPhail III, Janet (Andy) Speth, and Margaret (Dr. Michael) Woodhouse; grandchildren, Brady (Lindsay) McPhail, Lindsee (Courtney) Sommer-McPhail, Lauren-Maree McPhail, Susan (Dennis Jeanquart) Speth, Kristin Speth, and Matthew (Shannon) Speth; great-grandchild, Resse Elinor Sommer-McPhail; and many dear nieces and nephews.
Elinor was also preceded in death by her parents; sister, Hazel Walcup; brother, Ellsworth (Grace) Honish; sister and brother-in-law, Marion and Laurence (Pete) McCann; sister-in-law, Dorothy Honish; grandson, John Finley McPhail IV; two nephews, and a niece.
A Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be 11 a.m. Thursday, July 14, at St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church, 18316 County Hwy N, Tomah (Indian Creek). The Reverend Robert M. Letona will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Relatives and friends are invited to a time of visitation 10 a.m. until the time of service, Thursday, at the church.
Memorials may be given to Necedah National Wildlife Refuge, or Necedah Community Ziegler Memorial Library."
