Emilie Mathilde "Millie" KORTBEIN was born on 10 June 1870 in Ridgeville Township, Monroe County, WI.4,8,13,18,36 She appeared in the census on 16 June 1870 in Ridgeville Township, Monroe County, WI.8,34 She was baptized on 21 August 1870 in Ridgeville Township, Monroe County, WI.4 at St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church. Millie appeared in the census in 1875 in Ridgeville Township, Monroe County, WI.17 She was confirmed on 29 March 1885 in Ridgeville Township, Monroe County, WI.4 at St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church. She appeared in the census in 1900 in Hamburg Township, Wells County, ND.37 (She was listed as "Emelia.") Millie died on 3 October 1958 at the age of 88 in Willows, Glenn County, CA.34,35,36 She was buried on 9 October 1958 in Hamburg, Hamburg Township, Wells County, ND.35 in the Concordia Cemetery.

Emilie Mathilde "Millie" KORTBEIN and Herman Carl August SCHEER were married on 10 March 1891 in Wells County, ND.35,36,63,64 Herman Carl August SCHEER, son of Carl August SCHEER and Anna ZELLMER, was born on 17 June 1860 in Lebanon Township, Dodge County, WI.34,35,36 He appeared in the census on 26 June 1860 in Lebanon Township, Dodge County, WI.38 He appeared in the census in 1870 in Lebanon Township, Dodge County, WI.39 Herman appeared in the census in 1900 in Hamburg Township, Wells County, ND.37 His occupation was "Farmer." In 1902 he was a State Representative in North Dakota.64,65 "Herman Scheer, Jr. was a State Representative to the Legislature from Wells County in 1902 and in 1904. In 1908 he was a Presidential Elector and was selected to carry the official election returns from ND to Washington, D. C. His wife accompanied him on the trip.

Herman, Jr. invested heavily in grain elevators, banks, the stock market, etc. Herman lost everything including his large farm and died a poor man."
He died on 20 March 1939 at the age of 78 in Hamburg, Hamburg Township, Wells County, ND.34,35,36 Herman was buried in Hamburg, Hamburg Township, Wells County, ND.35 in the Concordia Cemetery.
