Ludwig "Louis" KUTHLOW was born on 8 January 1860 in Granville, Waukesha County, WI.6,12,17,29,42,46,50,67 (His surname is spelled "Kudtlow" in the Monroe County marriage records and in the baptism record of his daughter Emilie. His obituary says that he was born in Station Elm Grove, Brookfield Township, Waukesha County, WI.)

(His confirmation record lists his birth date as 8 Jan 1860. The 1900 Census listed his birth date as Mar 1860.) He was described as a baptism sponsor. on 18 March 1862 in Ridgeville Township, Monroe County, WI. He and Sophia Bartels and Emilie Schuster were sponsors for Emma Hoffman, the second child to be baptized at St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church. He emigrated in 1872 from Germany.49 Louis was confirmed on 29 March 1874 in Ridgeville Township, Monroe County, WI.12,67 at St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church. Between 1877 and 1912 he was a farmer in Wilton Township, Monroe County, WI.8,10 on the family farm, located on County Highway "U" just south of the Herman Kewit farm. He appeared in the census in 1880 in Wilton Township, Monroe County, WI.8 He was living with his mother. Louis appeared in the census in 1895 in Wilton Township, Monroe County, WI.28 His household consisted of 2 males and 5 females, of which 5 of the people were born in the United States and 2 in Germany. The names of the individual members of his family were not listed. He appeared in the census in 1900 in Wilton Township, Monroe County, WI.29 He was Lutheran in 1900 in Ridgeville Township, Monroe County, WI.45 and was listed on the Memberbership Roster of St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church. Louis appeared in the census in 1905 in Wilton Township, Monroe County, WI.48 He appeared in the census in 1910 in Wilton Township, Monroe County, WI.49 After 1912 he was a carpenter in Tomah, Tomah Township, Monroe County, WI.10,67 Louis appeared in the census in 1920 in Tomah, Tomah Township, Monroe County, WI.20 He appeared in the census in 1930 in Tomah, Tomah Township, Monroe County, WI.61 He died on 1 November 1945 at the age of 85 in Tomah, Tomah Township, Monroe County, WI.10,50,67 of metral deficiency, myocarditis, an enlarged heart and prostate trouble.

Obituary Notes: "Louis Kuthlow was born January 8, 1860 at Station Elm Grove, town of Brookfield, Waukesha County, Wisconsin. When about two years of age his parents moved to Monroe County and here he spent the remaining 83 years of his life. He lived in the town of Wilton until 1912, in which year he came to Tomah, making this city his home until the day of his death.

In 1874 he received Christian instruction at the Ridgeville Lutheran Church and was confirmed on March 29 of that year, Pastor A. F. Ziegler officiating. On February 28, 1881, he was united in marriage with Louisa Albrecht, of the town of Wilton, and Pastor Pankow of Ridgeville officiated on this occasion. To this union six children were born, two of whom preceded him in death. His wife had preceded him in death on January 4, 1925.

While living in town of Wilton he was a member of the Ridgeville church and since living in Tomah he held faithful membership in St. Paul's Lutheran church of this city.

Since living in Tomah, he had worked at the carpenter trade and after that, for some years and until 1928, in the Milwaukee Road shops of this city.

He enjoyed good health up to the past year or so; since then, due to a heart ailment, his health gradually failed and for some months he was confined almost entirely to his bed. Conscious to the very last, he passed away in the faith of his Lord, at 4:30 A.M. on November 1, at the age of 85 years, nine months, and 24 days.

Surviving are one son, Louis A. Kuthlow, town of Wilton; three daughters, Amelia, Mrs. Arthur Von Haden, Kendall; Dorothea, Mrs. Herman Noth, Tomah; Elsa, Mrs. LaVerne Bigelow, Tomah; eight grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, and many other relatives and a host of friends."

Louis was buried on 4 November 1945 in Tomah, Tomah Township, Monroe County, WI.17,67,99 in the Oak Grove Cemetery.

Ludwig "Louis" KUTHLOW and Louisa Wilhelmine Caroline "Louise" ALBRECHT were married on 28 February 1881 in Ridgeville Township, Monroe County, WI.6,12,42,46,57,67,100 at St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church. Louisa Wilhelmine Caroline "Louise" ALBRECHT, daughter of Franz Heinrich ALBRECHT and Friedericke BOERST, was born on 6 September 1862 in Alt Damerow, Kreis Saatzig, Regierungsbezirk Stettin, Pommern (Pomerania) Province, Preussen (Prussia).6,8,34,42,46,50,100 (She may have been born in Verchland, near Stargard.) She emigrated in 1872 from Germany.49 She was confirmed on 9 April 1876 in Ridgeville Township, Monroe County, WI.12 at St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church. Louise appeared in the census in 1880 in Wilton Township, Monroe County, WI.8 She appeared in the census in 1900 in Wilton Township, Monroe County, WI.29 She appeared in the census in 1905 in Wilton Township, Monroe County, WI.48 Louise appeared in the census in 1910 in Wilton Township, Monroe County, WI.49 She appeared in the census in 1920 in Tomah, Tomah Township, Monroe County, WI.20 She died on 4 January 1925 at the age of 62 in Ridgeville Township, Monroe County, WI.6,50,100 of a heart attack. Her funeral service was at St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church, conducted by Rev. Glaser. A big black wreath was put on the front door of her home, and the men in the funeral wore black arm bands. Louise was buried in Tomah, Tomah Township, Monroe County, WI.10,17,99 in the Oak Grove Cemetery.

Frieda Louise KUTHLOW was born on 2 May 1889 in Wilton Township, Monroe County, WI.17,46,50,99,101,102,103 (Her given name is spelled "Freda" on her gravestone.) She was a very popular girl with a lot of boyfriends, and was expecting a baby at the time of her death. Frieda was buried in Tomah, Tomah Township, Monroe County, WI.17,99 in the Oak Grove Cemetery.
