Poss, 93, of Tomah, died Friday, July 17, 2009, at her home. She was born April 22, 1916, to Frederick and Hulda (Schmalz) Baumbach at Hannibal, WI. She was baptized May 16, 1916, and confirmed May 29, 1930, at St. John’s Lutheran Church at Sparta. She was united in marriage to George Poss Oct. 30, 1936, at Waukon, IA. He preceded her in death June 12, 1987. She was a faithful member of St. Paul Ev. Lutheran Church and a member of the Mission Circle, the Grace Circle and the Ladies Aid. She was a member of the Tarr Valley Homemakers and a tutor at St. Paul Ev. Lutheran Elementary School. She worked in the Dietary Department of the VA Medical Center in Tomah. She is survived by a daughter, Jo Anne (Harry) Peth of Tomah; two sons, Dennis (Tomi) of Anchorage, AK, and Earl (Suzie) Habheggar of Richardson, TX; a sister-in-law, Myrna Baumbach of Orlando, FL; 10 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild, nieces, nephews, many other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, George; a daughter, Cindy Pingle; a grandson, Jay Poss, and two brothers, Harlan and Ralph. Funeral services were held Tuesday, July 21, at 11 a.m. at St. Paul Ev. Lutheran Church, 525 Superior Ave., Tomah. Pastor Donald R. Buch officiated. Burial was in St. John’s Lutheran Cemetery, Sparta. Relatives and friends called at the church on Tuesday from 9 a.m. until the time of the service. Memorials in memory of Alma may be given to the St. Paul LES student assistance fund. The Sonnenburg Family Funeral Home assisted the family with arrangements."
