17. Elmuth "Bud" MARTALOCK was born on 28 July 1920 in South Ridge, Wilton Township, Monroe County, WI.9,24 (He is listed as "Almut" in the Birth Registration Index.) He died on 17 August 2009 at the age of 89 in Tomah, Tomah Township, Monroe County, WI.24

Obituary Notes: "Elmuth “Bud” F. Martalock, 89, of Tomah, died Monday, Aug. 17, 2009, at the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Tomah. He was born July 28, 1920, to Almut and Delia (Steinke) Martalock on South Ridge. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church, South Ridge. He attended the South Ridge Grade School. He was united in marriage to Darleen Hemerley on June 17, 1947, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Kendall. Bud was a proud WWII U.S. Army veteran serving with the 14th Armored Division overseas in the European, African, and Middle Eastern Theaters; he fought in the Battle of the Bulge. Bud and Darleen farmed together in Black Valley for six years before moving to Tomah. He then worked as a mechanic for Fauska Implement Co. In 1959, they moved to Beloit where Bud worked for the Beloit Corp. as a set-up welder. He enjoyed traveling all over the United States while working for the Beloit Corp. In 1982, he retired after 23 years with the Beloit Corp., and Bud and Darleen returned to Tomah. Bud was a devoted and faithful member of the Gloria Dei Lutheran Church. He was a member of the Grassman-Sowle-Larsen-Senz American Legion Post # 201 and a lifetime member of the Curtis-McNutt V.F.W. Post #1382. He enjoyed the outdoors spending time hunting, fishing, camping, gardening, and hunting morel mushrooms. Bud enjoyed doing anything where he could work with his hands. He also enjoyed playing bingo and cards with the local card clubs. He enjoyed car rides with his wife while looking for wildlife. He especially loved spending time with his grandchildren, great-grandchildren and his great-great grandchild - they were the “sunshine” in his day. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, great-great-grandfather, brother, uncle and friend.

He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Darleen; a son, Alan (Pam) of Beloit; a daughter, Linda (Clarence “Butch”) Martin of Tomah; 10 grandchildren, Kay (special friend Rudy), Andy (Cyndi), Sara, Ruth (Jim) Lynch, Lora, all of Beloit, Misty of Elgin, IL, Eve of England, Jesse (Laurie) Rinehart of Tomah, Amy (Josh) Larsen and Chad (Jenny) Martin, all of Tomah;17 great-grandchildren, one great-great grandchild; two sisters, Marceda Hansen of Tomah and Ruby Rydzewski of Kenton, MI, and a brother, Frank (Darlene) Martalock of Ontario; two sisters-in-law, Ramona (Russ) Waterworth of Columbus, WI and Judy Kessenich of Silver Spring, MD and a brother-in-law, Vernie (Lucile) Hemerley of Tomah, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Vernal “Butch”; a grandson, Alan Jr.; a brother, Albert; two sisters, Leona Preuss and an Infant sister Bernice; three brothers-in-law, Edwin Rydzewski, Fred Hansen and Everett Hemerley, and a sister-in-law, Arlene Martalock.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, Aug. 22, at 11 a.m. at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church, 310 W. Elizabeth St., Tomah. Pastor David Dahl will officiate. Burial with military honors by Curtis McNutt V.F.W. Post #1382 will be in the South Ridge Lutheran Cemetery, Town of Wellington.

Relatives and friends are invited to call on Friday, Aug. 21, at the Sonnenburg Family Funeral Home, 801 E. Monowau St., Tomah, from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. and on Saturday at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of the service.

Memorials may be given in Bud’s memory to the Tomah DAV or the Gloria Dei Lutheran Church building fund."

Elmuth "Bud" MARTALOCK and Darleen Emilia "Dar" HEMMERLE were married on 17 June 1947 in Kendall, Glendale Township, Monroe County, WI.24,25 Darleen Emilia "Dar" HEMMERLE, daughter of Gustave F. HEMMERLE and Amelia UNKNOWN (HEMMERLE), was born on 1 December 1927 in Wellington Township, Monroe County, WI.9,25 She appeared in the census in 1930 in Wellington Township, Monroe County, WI.14 She died on 2 July 2015 at the age of 87 in Tomah, Tomah Township, Monroe County, WI.25

Obituary Notes: "Darleen “Dar” E. Martalock, 87, of Tomah died Thursday, July 2, 2015, at her home. She was born Dec. 1, 1927, to Gustav and Emilie Hemerley in the town of Wellington.

She was united in marriage to Elmuth “Bud” Martalock June 17, 1947, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Kendall. He preceded her in death Aug. 17, 2009. She was a member of the Kendall Graduating Class of 1946.

Darleen and Bud farmed together in Black Valley, for six years before moving to Tomah. In 1959, they moved to Beloit, and then returned to Tomah, in 1982. Darleen was a devoted and faithful member of the Gloria Dei Lutheran Church. She was a good mother and kept a clean house. Darleen enjoyed playing cribbage, playing Pfeiffer with her card club and would travel to Elroy, Kendall, Wilton, Ontario and Norwalk areas to play bingo. She was an excellent cook, and St. Patrick’s Day was one of her favorite days. She would treat her family to corned beef and cabbage.

She was a devoted Milwaukee Brewers fan. She enjoyed her flowers and watching the birdfeeder; she could sit out all day fishing if possible. Darleen especially loved spending time with her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; they were the “sunshine” of her life. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother great-great-grandmother.

She is survived by a son, Alan (Pam) of Beloit; a daughter, Linda (Clarence “Butch”) Martin of Tomah; ten grandchildren, Kay, Andy (Cyndi,) Sara, Ruth (Jim) Lynch, Lora, all of Beloit, Misty (Anthony) Iannone of Elgin, Ill., Eve (special friend, Rachel Javan) of England, Jesse (special friend, Diana) Rinehart of Tomah, Amy (Josh) Larsen and Chad (Jenny) Martin, all of Tomah; 17 great-grandchildren; three great-great grandchildren; two sisters, Ramona Waterworth of Columbus, Wis., and Judy Kessenich of Denver, Colo.; and a brother, Vernie (Lucile) Hemerley of Tomah; and a brother-in-law, Frank (Darlene) Martalock of Ontario; nieces, nephews; other relatives and friends.

In addition to her husband, she is preceded in death by her parents; a son, Vernal “Butch;” a grandson, Alan Jr.; a brother, Everett Hemerley; five brothers-in-law, Roy Pruess, Edwin Rydzewski, Fred Hansen, Russ Waterworth and Albert Martalock; five sisters-in-law, Marceda Hansen, Ruby Rydzewski, Leona Preuss, Arlene Martalock; and an infant sister-in-law, Bernice.
