243. Harold John "Harry" PETH was born on 17 January 1936 in Tomah, Tomah Township, Monroe County, WI.^87,342 He died on 5 August 2011 at the age of 75 in La Crosse, La Crosse County, WI.³⁴²

Obituary Notes: "Harold “Harry” J. Peth, 75, Tomah, died Friday, Aug. 5, 2011, with his loving family by his side at Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center, La Crosse. He was born on Jan. 17, 1936, to Reuben and Erma (Pingel) Peth in Tomah. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church. He was a graduate of Tomah High School. In January of 1955, Harry enlisted into the United State Army. On Sept. 5, 1957, Harold was united in marriage to Jo Anne Poss in Iowa. He worked as a welder/mechanic for the Milwaukee Road railroad for over 36 years, retiring in 1996. He also worked as an officer for the Monroe County Sheriff’s Department. He was a member of St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church. Harry was an avid sportsman who enjoyed all varieties of sports. He also enjoyed spending time outdoors, especially northwoods fishing, golfing, biking and walking. Most important to Harry was being a great father and grandfather. He always made time for each one of his children, sharing with them individually and together as a family. His kind and loving heart allowed for special bonds between them. Over the years his children not only were proud to call Harry their father but also their friend.

He is survived by his wife, Jo Anne; his children, Brian (Hollie) of Sparta, Victor (Jennifer) of Park Falls, Beth Peth, Kurt (Terri) Peth and Jenny (Casey) Purdy, all of Tomah; 13 grandchildren, Ashley, Natalie, Chanse, Chelsea, Gina (Jeff) Doyle, Christopher, Adam, Kyle, Kaylee, Kristen, Becca, Kate and Sarah; two great-grandchildren, Hannah and Jackson; two brothers, Donald (Mary) of Florida and Kenneth of Colorado; three sisters, Doris Remen of Onalaska, Ellen (Elton) Kuderer of Fairmont, Minn., and Lois (Donald) Wagner of Tomah; nieces; nephews; other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother-in-law, Dick Remen; and a sister-in-law, Colleen Pingel.

A prayer service was held on Monday, Aug. 8, 2011, 7 p.m. at the Sonnenburg Family Funeral Home, 801 E. Monowau Street, Tomah. Relatives and friends called on Monday at the funeral home from 4 p.m. until the time of the service. The family requests memorials be given in Harold’s memory to Hospice Touch, 321 Butts Ave. Tomah.
