172. Gladys E. MARTEN was born on 19 September 1931 in La Crosse, La Crosse County, WI.³⁴ She died on 21 January 2009 at the age of 77 in Sparta, Sparta Township, Monroe County, WI.³⁴

Obituary Notes: "Gladys E. Rose, 77, of Oakdale, fell asleep in the arms of her Lord on Wednesday, Jan. 21, 2009, at the Morrow Memorial Home in Sparta. She was born Sept. 19, 1931, to Elmer and Edna (Schueman) Marten at La Crosse. She grew up in the Tomah area where she lived all of her life, and later returned to school to earn her GED.

She was united in marriage to Donald Sorenson and later divorced.
She married Keith Rose in 1984 at Bethel Baptist Church. He preceded her in death in 1991. She owned and operated the Cranberry Gift Shop in Tomah for several years. Gladys was very thankful that until recently she was able to remain in her home. After an illness and injury in December of 2008, she moved to the Morrow Memorial Home. She was very appreciative of the loving care given to her both in her home and at the Morrow Home.

She was a kind and loving, gentle spirit who will be sadly missed by her family and all those who knew and loved her.

She is survived by her daughter, Linda (R.J) Miller of La Crosse. She was a proud grandmother of her two granddaughters, Lindsy Rose and Kayla Rose; several step-children; two brothers, Reuben (Katharine) of Pine City, MN, and formerly of Tomah, and Raymond Marten of Tomah; a sister, Viona Seleski of Spokane, WA; a special friend, Janet (Tom) Wilson of Camp Douglas; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Keith; a brother Robert; a sister Bernita Deichler; a brother-in-law Louis Deichler; and two sisters-in-law Barbara Marten and Anna Marten.

Funeral services were held Saturday, Jan. 24, at 11 a.m. at Bethel Baptist Church, N9492 1st Ave., Camp Douglas. Pastor Thomas Baker officiated.

Relatives and friends called on Friday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Sonnenburg Family Funeral Home, 801 E. Monowau St., Tomah, and at the church on Saturday from 10 a.m. until the time of the service.

MARTEN and Keith Melvin ROSE were married on 4 February 1984.^5,14 Keith Melvin ROSE, son of Melvin Lawton ROSE and Hazel ERICKSEN, was born on 12 June 1930 in Monroe County, WI.⁸⁷ He appeared in the census in 1930 in Byron Township, Monroe County, WI.²⁸³ He died in 1991 at the age of 61.²³

Gladys E. MARTEN and Donald "Don" SORENSON were married.⁵ They⁵ were divorced.³⁴ Donald "Don" SORENSON was born (date unknown).
