99. Garland Leroy "Garlie" BEHRENS was born on 27 December 1922 in Monroe County, WI.87 He died on 20 May 2014 at the age of 91.208

Obituary Notes: "Garland L. Behrens, 91, of Tomah passed away Tuesday, May 20, 2014.
He was born Dec. 29, 1922, to Henry and Irene (Wenzel) Behrens. Garland served in the U.S. Army during World War II in central Europe. He was stationed in England, Normandy, France, and Rhineland.

He was united in marriage to Patricia Ostermick Feb. 18, 1948. They were married for 65 years. Garlie spent his working years at the Tomah VA Hospital as a boiler plant operator. He was also a member of the Tomah Volunteer Fire Department for many years.

In his spare time he loved hunting, fishing and trapping. Garland created a tree farm and was awarded Tree Farmer of the Year. He planted hundreds of trees, creating beautiful woodland. He was proud to give his family Christmas trees every year. Garland loved deer season, and hunted with his family and friends until his late 80’s. He also enjoyed gardening and feeding the birds. In their later years, Garlie and Pat enjoyed traveling to Las Vegas and taking many bus tours.

He is survived by three children, Kathy McGarry of Tomah, Diane Behrens of Tomah, and Gary (Mary) Behrens of La Crosse; daughter-in-law, Cindy Behrens of La Crosse; five grandchildren, Ryan Tralmer, Kim Tralmer, Dan (Kristen) McGarry, Aaron (Tina) Behrens and Jennifer Behrens; three great-grandchildren, Brennen, Mason and McKenna; other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Patricia; his parents, Henry and Irene Behrens; his father-in-law and mother in-law, Ben and Gladys Ostermick; a son-in-law, Dennis McGarry; and a sister, Evelyn (Dale) Potts.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday at First Congregational United Church of Christ in Tomah. Pastor Edwin Stigen will officiate. Burial with full military honors will follow in Oak Grove Cemetery, Tomah."

Garland Leroy "Garlie" BEHRENS and Patricia "Pat" OSTERMICK were married on 18 February 1948.209 Patricia "Pat" OSTERMICK was born on 24 September 1927 in Tomah, Tomah Township, Monroe County, WI.209 She graduated in 1945 in Tomah, Tomah Township, Monroe County, WI. from Tomah High School. She died on 12 December 2013 at the age of 86 in Tomah, Tomah Township, Monroe County, WI.209

She was born Sept. 24, 1927, to Benjamin and Gladys (Wright) Ostermick in Tomah.

Pat was a 1945 graduate of Tomah High School. She was united in marriage to Garland L. Behrens on Feb. 18, 1948. They were married for 65 years.

Pat was a wonderful daughter, wife, mother, grandmother and friend. She spent her life caring for and loving her family. She also enjoyed working part-time in the office at Tomah Memorial Hospital.

Pat was an active member of the First Congregational United Church of Christ for many years. She was a very talented vocalist and pianist. Pat loved singing in and directing the church choir. Her family always felt she had the voice and the spirit of an angel.
Pat and Garlie enjoyed traveling to Las Vegas and also took many bus tours in the later years. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren always brought Pat great joy. She loved them all dearly.

Some of her favorite past times were crocheting, reading and cooking for her family. She hosted many wonderful family dinners. Every deer season the hunters looked forward to her special soup, cake and homemade treats.

Patricia was truly the heart of her family. She was loved by many and will be greatly missed.

She is survived by her husband, Garland of Tomah; three children, Kathy McGarry of Tomah, Diane Behrens of Tomah, and Gary (Mary) Behrens of La Crosse; daughter-in-law, Cindy Behrens of La Crosse; five grandchildren, Ryan Tralmer, Kim Tralmer, Dan (fiancé, Kristen) McGarry, Aaron (Tina) Behrens and Jennifer (fiancé, Gonzalo) Behrens; three great-grandchildren, Brennen, Mason and McKenna; dear friends, Val Strozinsky and Eleanor “Kek” Robien; and other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Ben and Gladys Ostermick; her father-in-law and mother-in-law, Henry and Irene Behrens; a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Dale and Evelyn Potts; and a son-in-law, Dennis McGarry.
