Obituary Notes: "LaVern F. Wappler, 87, of Tomah, died Monday, Jan. 5, 2004, at the Tomah Healthcare Center. He was born Feb. 29, 1916, to Albert and Elsie (Koehler) Wappler in the Town of Clifton. He was united in marriage to Lillian Harwardt Sept. 24, 1939, in Denver, Colo. They owned a dairy farm in the Town of Clifton, operating with teams of horses and later with machinery. He raised steers for many years and also worked as a salesman for Vigertone, DeKalb and Heritage Seed Companies.

LaVern is survived by a daughter, Betty Preuss of Wilton; two granddaughters, Marie and Becky Preuss, both of Wilton; a brother, Lloyd of Tomah; two sisters, Marcella Austin of Tomah and Berness Hartz of Ashland; a sister-in-law, Carol Wappler of Onalaska; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Lillian; an infant daughter; an infant brother; a brother Calvin; two sisters-in-law, Adeline Wappler and Ann Harwardt; and brothers-in-law, Norman Austin, Edward Hartz and Emil Hardwardt.

Funeral services will be held Friday, Jan. 9, 2004, at 11 a.m. at St. Peter Ev. Lutheran Church in the Town of Clifton. Pastor Paul G. Heiderich will officiate. Burial will be in Oak Grove Memorial Garden at Tomah.

Relatives and friends are invited to call today (Thursday) from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Sonnenburg Family Funeral Home, 801 E. Monowau St., Tomah, and at the church on Friday from 10 a.m. until time of the service.

Memorials may be given to St. Peter Ev. Lutheran Church in his memory."

HARWARDT, daughter of Jacob HARWARDT and Helene LEIPELT, was born on 13 April 1918 in La Crosse, La Crosse County, WI. She died on 1 May 1999 at the age of 81 in Tomah, Tomah Township, Monroe County, WI. She was buried in Tomah, Tomah Township, Monroe County, WI.114 in the Oak Grove Cemetery.
