Obituary Notes: "Mass of Christian Burial for Elton Kuderer, 85, of Fairmont was 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 29 at St. John Vianney Catholic Church in Fairmont. Burial with full military honors by Martin County V.F.W. Post 1222 and Lee C. Prentice American Legion Post 36 was at Calvary Cemetery in Fairmont. Visitation was 9:30 to 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 29, at St. John Vianney Catholic Church.
Elton passed away Thursday, Nov. 20, 2014, at Holmes Regional Medical Center in Melbourne, Fla. Lakeview Funeral Home and Cremation Service of Fairmont is in charge of the arrangements for the family.
Elton Alois Kuderer was born June 21, 1929, in Wilton, the son of Carl Joseph and Gertrude Elizabeth (Prell) Kuderer. Elton grew up in Wilton and graduated from Wilton High School in 1946. He joined the U.S. Navy after high school and served in the U.S. and North Atlantic from 1946 until 1948. After the Navy he received his bachelor of science degree from the University of Minnesota in 1953. Elton received a reserve commission in the Artillery Corps of the U.S. Army in 1950. On Sept. 23, 1950, Elton was united in marriage to Ellen Peth in Wilton. Elton was called to active duty during the Korean War in 1951, and served in the U.S and Japan.
Elton earned his law degree from William Mitchell College of Law in 1960, and joined the Erickson & Zierke Law Firm in Fairmont. In addition to his private practice, Elton served as assistant city attorney for Fairmont from 1965 to 1971 and as Martin County attorney from 1971 to 1979.
He was honored to serve as a member of the University of Minnesota Board of Regents from 1987 to 1993 and as chair from 1991 to 1993. Elton held leadership positions in bar associations and legal societies, Fairmont Chamber of Commerce, St. John Vianney Catholic Church, Fairmont Knights of Columbus, and many other professional, civic and charitable organizations. Elton was a life member of Veterans of Foreign Wars and American Legion.
Elton earned countless accolades over the years for his work, including being named among the Best Lawyers in America, and was a recipient of The Distinguished Service Award from his alma mater, William Mitchell. He also gave of his time as a lecturer for Continuing Legal Education, and as an instructor at the University of Minnesota College of Veterinary Medicine. Elton’s interests included travel, golf, University of Minnesota athletics and family-focused activities.
Left to cherish Elton’s memory are his beloved wife, Ellen; his nine children, Barbara Brueckner, Gregory Kuderer, Laura Marcaccini, James Kuderer, Marie Kuderer, Patricia Kuderer, John Kuderer, Kathleen Schmid and Robert Kuderer; 22 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; his sister, Joyce Northcott; and brother, Norman Kuderer; as well as numerous in-laws, family and friends.
In addition to his parents, Elton was preceded in death by his brother, Verlyn Kuderer; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Erma and Reuben Peth; sister-in-law, Colleen Peth; brothers-in-law, Harold Peth, Richard Remen and Glenn Northcott."
