Raymond William "Ray" ECKELBERG was born on 18 December 1923 in La Grange Township, Monroe County, WI.34 He died on 10 April 2005 at the age of 81 in Janesville, Rock County, WI.34 Obituary Notes: “Raymond William Eckelberg, 81, of Kendall, WI, died Sunday, April 10, 2005, at his son’s home in Janesville. He was born on Dec. 18, 1923, to Louis and Ruth (Westphal) Eckelberg in the Town of La Grange, Monroe County, WI.

He was united in marriage to Margaret F. Winchell on Oct. 16, 1948, at St. John’s Ev. Lutheran Church, Kendall. To this union six children were born. She preceded him in death on Feb. 26, 1966. He was married to Dorothy (Preuss) Solchenberger on July 29, 1967, at St. John’s Ev. Lutheran Church, Kendall.

Ray farmed on South Ridge for 14 years. In 1963 he moved to the Town of Glendale and did carpentry and construction work for the next 38 years. Upon retirement he worked for the Town of Glendale Recycling Program. He was a member of the Carpenter Union for many years. He was a faithful member of St. John’s Ev. Lutheran Church, Kendall.

Raymond is survived by his wife, Dorothy; 6 children: Kandis (Spencer) Warner, Kris (Brenda) Eckelberg, both of Friendship, Kathy (Doug) Parish, Kenny (Debbie) Eckelberg, both of Janesville, Karina (James) Noll of Limerick, PA, and Kelly (Kay) Eckelberg of South Beloit, IL; 4 stepchildren: Carol Jeske of Minocqua, Helen (Herb) Ritter of West Allis, Allen (Patty) Solchenberger of Sparta, and Dale (Cindy) Solchenberger of Franklin; 24 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; 2 brothers, Robert of Tomah and Reinold (Wilmetta) of Montello; 4 sisters: Ruby Butterfuss of Tomah, Marie (Gilbert) Neitzel of Onalaska, Lucille (Vernon) Hemerley of Tomah, and Gladys (Roger) Kaus of Raleigh, NC; 2 sisters-in-law, Alvera Eckelberg of Kendall and Marian Eckelberg of Janesville; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Louis and Ruth Eckelberg; his first wife, Margaret; 2 brothers, Loren and Charles Eckelberg; a grandson; 2 stepdaughters, Brenda Miller and Wanda Solchenberger; and a stepgranddaughter.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, April 14, 2005, at St. John Ev. Lutheran Church , Kendall, WI. Pastor Fred Fedke will officiate. Burial will be in South Ridge Lutheran Cemetery, in the Town of Wellington. Relatives and friends are invited to call at the church on Wednesday from 4:00 until 8:00 p.m. and on Thursday from 10:00 a.m. until time of the services.” He was buried on 14 April 2005 in Wellington Township, Monroe County, WI.34,59 in the St. Matthew's Lutheran Church Cemetery.

Raymond William "Ray" ECKELBERG and Margaret Fern WINCHELL were married on 16 October 1948 in Kendall, Glendale Township, Monroe County, WI.34 at St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church/ Margaret Fern WINCHELL was born on 24 February 1929 in Hillsboro, Vernon County, WI.55 She died on 26 February 1966 at the age of 37 in Hillsboro, Vernon County, WI.23,55 She was buried in Wellington Township, Monroe County, WI.59 in the St. Matthew's Lutheran Church Cemetery.

Raymond William "Ray" ECKELBERG and Dorothy Jane PREUSS were married on 29 July 1967 in Kendall, Glendale Township, Monroe County, WI.34 at St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church. Dorothy Jane PREUSS, daughter of Harry W. PREUSS and Hazel F. CLARK, was born on 17 November 1921 in Glendale Township, Monroe County, WI.34,261,262 She appeared in the census in 1930 in Plymouth Township, Juneau County, WI.262 She died on 2 June 2006 at the age of 84 in Hillsboro, Vernon County, WI.34

Obituary Notes: "Dorothy Jane Eckelberg, 84, of Kendall, died Friday, June 2, 2006, at St. Joseph Hospital in Hillsboro. She was born Nov. 17, 1921, to Harry W. and Hazel F. (Clark) Preuss in the Town of Glendale, Monroe County, WI. She married John Solchenberger. On July 29, 1967, she was united in marriage to Raymond William Eckelberg at St. John’s Ev. Lutheran Church, Kendall. Prior to retiring, Dorothy worked for the Marimack Powder Plant and as a cook for the nutrition center. She was a faithful member of St. John’s Ev. Lutheran Church, Kendall, and served on the Ladies Aid. During her retirement, she enjoyed gardening, quilting and playing cards with friends and family.

She is survived by four children, Carol Jeske of Minocqua, Helen (Herb) Ritter of West Allis, Allen (Patty) Solchenberger of Sparta and Dale (Cindy) Solchenberger of Franklin; six stepchildren, Kandis (Spencer) Warner and Kris (Brenda) Eckelberg, both of Friendship, Kathy (Doug) Parish and Kenny (Debbie) Eckelberg, both of Janesville, Karina (James) Noll of Limerick, PA, and Kelly (Kay) Eckelberg of South Beloit, IL; 25 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Irene (Wilfred) Nelson of Mauston and Elaine (Norbert) Popp of Kendall; a brother, Marvin (Audrey) Preuss of Elroy; two brothers-in-law, Robert Eckelberg of Tomah and Reinold (Wilmetta) Eckelberg of Montello; seven sisters-in-law, Ruby Butterfuss of Tomah, Marie (Gilbert) Neitzel of Onalaska, Lucille (Vernon) Hemerley of Tomah, Gladys (Roger) Kaus of Raleigh, NC, Alvera Eckelberg of Kendall, Marion Eckelberg of Janesville, and Alice Preuss of Union Center; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by two daughters, Brenda Miller and Wanda Solchenberger; two grandsons, Randy Warner and Kyle Eckelberg;, a granddaughter, Theresa Dopson; a sister, Lois Nelson; two brothers, Roger and Ronald Preuss; five brothers-in-law, Loren and Charles Eckelberg, Erling Nelson, William Kobleska and Leonard Butterfuss; two sisters-in-law, Margaret and Ruth Eckelberg.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, June 7, at 11 a.m. at St. John Ev. Lutheran Church, Kendall. Pastor Fred Fedke officiated. Burial was in South Ridge Lutheran Cemetery in the Town of Wellington. Relatives and friends called at the church on Tuesday from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. and on Wednesday from 10 a.m. until time of the services. A prayer service was held at the church on Tuesday evening at 8:00. The Smith-Nelson Funeral Home assisted the family with arrangements."
