Mangene, age 86, of Tomah, died Tuesday, Feb. 8, 2005, at the Serenity House in Tomah. She was born Sept. 29, 1918, to August and Emma (Behrens) Marquardt in Beloit, Wis. She was united in marriage to Tony J. Mangene on March 4, 1942, at St. Mark's Catholic Rectory in Redgranite. She graduated from Sparta High School in 1936 and then she was employed at LaCrosse State College as a receptionist. On Jan. 8, 1980, she retired from Northwest Telephone Company as an executive secretary. She was an active and faithful member of St. Mary Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. She was a member of St. Cecilia Guild and was a Eucharistic Minister. For many years she was involved in St. Mary's school functions, projects and activities. She also enjoyed playing cards especially with her Canasta Club. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She will be sadly missed by all those who knew and loved her. Fern is survived by her husband, Tony; three sons, Robert (Sandy) Mangene of Tucson, AZ., Thomas Mangene of Tomah and Charles (Barbara) Mangene of Trempealeau; and a daughter, Judith (Lester) Hoag of Oakdale; eight grandchildren, Alan Mangene, David Mangene, Nicole Mangene, Kimberly (Chris) Shrake, Linda (Mike) Linehan, Kevin (Kristi) Hoag, Travis Mangene and Ross Mangene; six great-grandchildren, Tyler and Joshua Shrake, Michael and Mitchell Linehan, Karter and Karson Hoag; three sisters-in-law, Gen Marquardt of Tomah, Mary Ann (Mangene) Ring of Madison, AL, and Angeline (Mangene) Felder of Winter Park, FL; nephews, nieces and many other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, John Marquardt and Earl Marquardt, and sisters-in-law Sarah Marquardt and Filomena Mangene and brothers-in-law Angelo Mangene, Florian Mangene, Albert Ring and Irvin Felder. A Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, Feb. 12, at 10:30 a.m.at St. Mary Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 203 W. Monroe St., Tomah. The Very Rev. Steven J. Kachel will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Relatives and friends are invited to call at the Sonnenburg Family Funeral Home, 801 E. Monowau St., on Friday from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. and at the church on Saturday from 9:30 a.m. until time of the Mass. A Parish Council of Catholic Women rosary will be recited Friday at 4 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials may be given to St. Mary's Catholic School in memory of Fern."
