14. Harold Elmer Rudolph MARTIN was born on 7 October 1907 in Wisconsin.¹⁵

He appeared in the census in 1910 in Wells Township, Monroe County, WI.⁴ He appeared in the census in 1920 in Wells Township, Monroe County, WI.^3,35 Harold appeared in the census in 1930 in Wells Township, Monroe County, WI.¹⁵ He was living with his parents and his occupation was "Laborer, Farm." He died on 16 May 1960 at the age of 52.³⁶ He was buried in San Diego, San Diego County, CA.²³ in the National Cemetery.

Harold Elmer Rudolph MARTIN and Helen Margaret SWEET were married on 1 November 1932 in Rockford, Rockford Township, Winnebago County, IL.^37,38 They^37,38 were divorced before May 1935.³⁶ Helen Margaret SWEET, daughter of Harry Washington SWEET and Fidelia Maria GETMAN, was born on 19 November 1912 in Tomah, Tomah Township, Monroe County, WI.^20,36,39 (She may have been born 19 April 1913.) She appeared in the census in 1920 in La Grange Township, Monroe County, WI.³ She appeared in the census in 1930 in La Grange Township, Monroe County, WI.¹⁵ Helen appeared in the census in 1940 in Tomah, Tomah Township, Monroe County, WI.⁴⁰ She died on 11 December 2006 at the age of 94 in Waukesha, Waukesha County, WI.³⁹

Obituary Notes: "Helen Margaret Smith, 94, of Waukesha and formerly of Tomah passed away Monday, Dec. 11, 2006, at the Waukesha Springs Nursing Home.

She was born Nov. 19, 1912, to Harry and Deda (Getman) Sweet in Tomah. Helen was united in marriage to Harold Martin who later preceded her in death. She was later married to La Vern “Doc” Hill; who also preceded her in death.

Helen spent her working years as a schoolteacher. She was a social person and enjoyed being around people. She also worked many years as a waitress and a bartender. In her spare time she loved dancing, ceramics, gardening and playing cards.

Helen was later married to Ed Smith. She spent most of her life in the Tomah area and will be remembered by many.

She is survived by eight children, Patricia “Patty” Dana (Dick Dana), Glenn Hill, Gary Hill, Jane Rohde, Gene (Ter’e) Hill, Gordon Hill, Roy (Jill) Hill and James Hill; 14 grandchildren, Scott LaBerge, Deda Kreuzer, Jacqueline Gelly, Patrick Watson, Scott Hill, Jennifer Cunningham, Juliet Holzenberg, Richard Rohde, Lisa Reimers, Lana Atkins, Lora Baccralla, Tania Hill, Jessica Hill and Christopher Hill; 26 great- grandchildren; one great-great- grandchild; many other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Harry and Deda; her husbands, Harold Martin, La Vern “Doc” Hill and Ed Smith; a brother, Glenn and three grandchildren, Glenn, Matthew and Dane.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, Dec. 19, at 2 p.m. at the Torkelson Funeral Home in Tomah. Pastor William Swan will officiate. Burial will follow in the La Grange Cemetery, Tomah. Family and friends are invited for visitation Tuesday from noon until the time of service at the funeral home."

She was buried on 19 December 2006 in La Grange Township, Monroe County, WI.³⁹ in the LaGrange Township Cemetery.
