37. Ervin Edwin "Gabby" MITTELSTAEDT was born on 3 October 1920 in Ridgeville Township, Monroe County, WI.69,75 He graduated in 1938 in Tomah, Tomah Township, Monroe County, WI.75 from Tomah High School. He died on 8 July 2005 at the age of 84 in Tomah, Tomah Township, Monroe County, WI.75

Obituary Notes: "Ervin E. “Gabby” Mittelstaedt, 84, of Tomah, passed away on Friday, July 8, 2005. He was born on Oct. 3, 1920, to William and Martha (Summerfield) Mittelstaedt on the family farm near Wilton, Wis. He was a 1938 graduate of Wilton High School. Gabby served in the United States Army from 1942 to 1945 and was awarded a Bronze Star. Following his discharge he worked in construction until 1952 when he accepted a job with Wisconsin Power and Light.

On Sept. 7, 1946, he was united in marriage to LaVon L. McNutt in Wausau, Wis. He served in the Wisconsin National Guard 32nd Division 732nd Maintenance Battalion and was called to duty in 1961 during the Berlin Crisis.

Gabby loved to play baseball in his earlier years. He also enjoyed softball, playing cards, hunting, fishing, woodworking, spending time outdoors and making rocking horses for kids. He especially enjoyed his family fishing trips to the Lake of the Woods after his retirement. He was a past commander of the Grassman-Sowle-Larsen-Senz American Legion Post 201 in Tomah and was also a member of the 40 et 8 and VFW Post 1382. Gabby was a lifetime member of the Wakoda Bowman Archery Club.

He is survived by his sons, Larry (Cheryl) Mittelstaedt of Tomah, and Gary (Lou Ann) Mittelstaedt of Warrens; three grandchildren, Neil and Bret Mittelstaedt of Warrens, and Steven Mittelstaedt of Tomah, ; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Martha; his wife, LaVon on Sept. 30, 1985; sisters, Hilda Ferris, Esther Schumacher, Elna and Elma Mittelstaedt; and a brother, Arnold Mittelstaedt.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, July 12, 11 a.m. at the Gloria Dei Lutheran Church in Tomah. Pastor William Rice will officiate. Burial with full military honors by American Legion Post 201 will follow in the Warrens Mills Cemetery, Warrens. Family and friends are invited for visitation on Monday, July 11, from 4 until 7 p.m. at the Torkelson Funeral Home in Tomah and on Tuesday from 10 a.m. until the time of service at the church. Gabby was buried on 12 July 2005 in Warrens, Lincoln Township, Monroe County, WI.75 in the Warren Mills Cemetery.

Ervin Edwin "Gabby" MITTELSTAEDT and LaVon Lois MCNUTT were married on 7 September 1946 in Wausau, Maine Township, Marathon County, WI.11,75,76,77 LaVon Lois MCNUTT, daughter of Francis Oscar MCNUTT and Florence Ellen FRINK, was born on 2 October 1928 in Warrens, Lincoln Township, Monroe County, WI.75 She appeared in the census in 1930 in Lincoln Township, Monroe County, WI.59 She died on 28 September 1985 at the age of 56 in Tomah, Tomah Township, Monroe County, WI.75 LaVon was buried in Warrens, Lincoln Township, Monroe County, WI.21 in the Warren Mills Cemetery.
