As he was growing up, he lived in Southgate, MI; Eau Claire, WI; Auburn, AL; and Columbia, SC. He attended grade school at Epiphany Lutheran School in Eau Claire and at public schools in Auburn; middle schools in Auburn and Columbia; and high school in Columbia. He was baptized on 13 August 1972 in West Allis, Milwaukee County, WI.^135,296 at Nain Evangelical Lutheran Church. His godparents are LuAnn (Griggs) Marshall and Duaine Griggs, siblings of his father. He was confirmed on 12 April 1987 in Columbia, Richland County, SC.^136,296 at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church. Jon graduated in June 1990 in Columbia, Richland County, SC.^295,296 from Spring Valley High School. He graduated in August 1996 in Columbia, Richland County, SC.^295,296 from the University of South Carolina, with a Bachelor's Degree in Hotel, Restaurant and Tourism Administration.

After graduation, he served an internship with the Crowne Plaza Resort on Hilton Head Island, SC. In 1997, he became the VP/General Manager of Tavern on Greene, a college bistro in Columbia, and he also managed the rock group, "King Hippo."

In October 2003, he passed his state insurance exam and became an Account Representative for AFLAC Insurance in Myrtle Beach, SC. In June 2004, he became a Moving Consultant for Nilson Mayflower Van and Storage in Charleston, SC.

He lived in Pawleys Island, Georgetown County, SC in September 2005.³⁷⁹ In September 2005, he passed his real estate exam and began his career as a Realtor at Re/Max by the Sea Realty in Pawleys Island. He and his mother formed "The Griggs Team," one of the most successful Realtor teams in the area, and in January 2009 they moved their business to The Dieter Company. Jon earned his Accredited Buyer Representative (ABR) designation in 2010.

In September 2021, he was "Voted Best Realtor" in the Charleston (SC) Post and Courier Newspaper 2021 Reader's Choice competition. He received the same honor in September 2022. Jon lived in Pawleys Island, Georgetown County, SC in October 2017.⁴⁴ He purchased a new home at 90 Blockade Drive.

Phinn Madison GRIGGS (*) (~) (+) (^) (!) was born on 2 March 2018 in Murrells Inlet, Georgetown County, SC.³⁸⁰ He was born at the Waccamaw Community Hospital at 8:37 pm, weighed 9 lbs, 10 oz, and was 21 3/4 inches long.

His birth began at about 7:15 pm and took almost 1 1/2 hours because of his size.
