Auguste Amelia "Gustie" ACHTENBERG was born on 15 March 1866 in Gromaden, Kreis Wirsitz, Posen Province, Preussen (Prussia).1,5,25,27,36,63 Her name was listed as "Augusta Aualie" on her marriage certificate. She emigrated on 8 August 1877 from Preussen (Prussia).6 She was confirmed on 6 April 1879 in Ridgeville Township, Monroe County, WI.27 at St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church.

(She cannot be located in the 1880 Census, and it is not known where she was living.)

Obituary Notes: "Augusta Achtenberg Neitzel was born in the province of Posen, Germany, on March 15, 1866. At the age of 11 she came to the United States with her parents and settled in the town of Ridgeville, Monroe County, Wisconsin. In 1880 she was united in marriage with Herman J, Neitzel. To this union two sons were born. Her husband preceded her in death March 1, 1941.

After a brief illness, she passed away at her home on Friday, Dec. 15, 1950, at the age of 84 years and 9 months. She is survived by two sons, William of Alameda, Calif., and Fred of Tomah; eight grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, nine nieces, one nephew, many other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held on Monday, Dec. 18 at St. Paul's Ev. Lutheran church at 2 P.M., the Rev John Dahle officiating. Interment was in Oak Grove Cemetery." Gustie was buried in Tomah, Tomah Township, Monroe County, WI.1,25,64,65 in the Oak Grove Cemetery.

Auguste Amelia "Gustie" ACHTENBERG and Hermann Johann A. NEITZEL were married on 30 September 1886 in Ridgeville Township, Monroe County, WI.25,27,31,63 at St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church. Their witnesses were Herman Kewit, Louise Backhaus, Maria Neitzel and Wilhelm Graewin.

. Hermann Johann A. NEITZEL, son of Karl Johann NEITZEL and Johanna Sophia ZIETLOW, was born on 9 January 1862 in Boltenhagen, Mecklenburg-Vorpommern (West Pomerania) Province, Preussen (Prussia).1,25,27 He emigrated in 1883 from Boltenhagen, Mecklenburg-Vorpommern (West Pomerania) Province, Preussen (Prussia).14,25 In September 1886 he was a laborer at Goodyear's Mill in Jackson County, WI.27,63 at the time of his marriage. Between 1890 and 1930 Hermann was a railroad worker in Tomah, Tomah Township, Monroe County, WI.25 He appeared in the census in 1900 in Tomah, Tomah Township, Monroe County, WI.14 His occupation was listed as "foreman, Goodyear (lumber) yard." He appeared in the census in 1910 in Tomah, Tomah Township, Monroe County, WI.30 His family lived on Jackson Street and his occupation was listed as "foreman, Ry Br Yards." Hermann appeared in the census in 1920 in Tomah, Tomah Township, Monroe County, WI.24 He appeared in the census in 1930 in Tomah, Tomah Township, Monroe County, WI.34 They lived at 402 Jackson Street. He appeared in the census in 1940 in Tomah, Tomah Township, Monroe County, WI.43 His household was at 402 West Jackson Street. Hermann died on 1 March 1941 at the age of 79 in Tomah, Tomah Township, Monroe County, WI.25

Obituary Notes: "Herman John Neitzel, for many years a resident of this city, passed away at his home here Saturday evening. He was born in Pommern, Germany, on Jan. 9, 1862.

At the age of 21 years, after serving three years in the German army, he came to the United States, living with a sister (probably Emilie) at South Ridge for a short time. He went to work at the Goodyear mill in Jackson county and on Sept. 30, 1886, he was united in marriage with Miss Augusta Achtenberg. Two sons, William and Fred, were born to this union.

In 1890, Mr. Neitzel moved his family to Tomah and entered the employ of the C. M. St. P. and P. Railway Company. He worked for the railway company for 40 years, retiring at the age of 69, and spending his last years in a well-earned vacation.

Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Augusta Neitzel; two sons, William of Alameda, Calif., and Fred of Tomah; eight grandchildren, one great-grandchild; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Mr. Neitzel has been a fine citizen during his many years of residence in Tomah, a good Christian father and a religious church member. In September, 1936, Mr. and Mrs. Neitzel celebrated their golden wedding anniversary.

Funeral services were held on Wednesday afternoon at 2 o'clock from St. Paul's Lutheran Church, the Rev. H. Schaller officiating. interment was in Oak Grove Cemetery." He was buried on 5 March 1941 in Tomah, Tomah Township, Monroe County, WI.16,25,64 in the Oak Grove Cemetery.
