His sponsors were Ernestine Achtenberg (a sister of his mother), Friedrich Gnewikow (a brother of his father) and Ludwig Kuthlow (a brother of his maternal grandmother). Mathilde Sophia "Tillie" MARQUARDT, daughter of Albert Gustav MARQUARDT and Augustine Alwine BREHMER, was born on 11 November 1883 in New York Mills, Otter Tail County, MN.^{1,24,25,77,81,82} (The 1920 Census lists her birth place as Wisconsin.) She was confirmed on 11 April 1897 in Ridgeville Township, Monroe County, WI.⁸² at St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church. She appeared in the census in 1900 in Ridgeville Township, Monroe County, WI.¹⁴ Tillie appeared in the census in 1910 in Ridgeville Township, Monroe County, WI.³⁰ She appeared in the census in 1930 in Norwalk, Monroe County, WI.³⁴ She died on 29 December 1967 at the age of 84 in Norwalk, Monroe County, WI.^{1,25,77,81,83} Tillie was buried on 1 January 1968 in Norwalk, Monroe County, WI.^25,78,81 in the Pilgrim's Home Cemetery.
