Martin Eduard "Ed" ACHTENBERG was born on 28 November 1870 in Gromaden, Kreis Schubin, Posen Province, Preussen (Prussia).1,5,7,10,16,18,28 (His gravestone shows his name as "Edward M." while other records indicate it to be "Martin Edward.") He emigrated on 9 August 1877 from Preussen (Prussia).6,14 (The 1900 Census listed his emigration year as 1880 and indicated that he had been in America for 20 years. His ship's passenger manifest was dated 1877.) He appeared in the census in 1880 in Ridgeville Township, Monroe County, WI.10 Ed was confirmed on 6 April 1884 in Ridgeville Township, Monroe County, WI.28 at St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church. He appeared in the census in 1900 in Tomah, Tomah Township, Monroe County, WI.14 His household was at 321 Hollister Avenue (his occupation was not legible). He appeared in the census in 1910 in Tomah, Tomah Township, Monroe County, WI.32 His household was on Jackson Street in the 3rd Ward, and his occupation appears to be "Painter, Ry Br Yards." Ed appeared in the census in 1920 in Tomah, Tomah Township, Monroe County, WI.25 His household was at 321 Hollister Avenue and his occupation was "Machinist, Railroad Shops." Ed died on 28 November 1942 at the age of 72.2 He was buried in Tomah, Tomah Township, Monroe County, WI.3,16,17 in the Oak Grove Cemetery.

Hulda Emilie DUVIE22, daughter of Friedrich DUVIE and Wilhelmine Friederike KRUEGER, was born on 15 August 1873 in Monroe County, WI.1,14,25,28,72 (The 1900 Census, conducted in June, listed her birth date as Aug 1874 and her age as 25.) She was baptized on 14 September 1873 in Ridgeville Township, Monroe County, WI.28 in the St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church. Achtenberg, 86, died Monday night, July 4, Lakeland Hospital, Elkhorn. at Born Aug. 15, 1873, she was the daughter of Fred and Wilhelmina Duvie. The former Hulda Duvie married Edward M. Achtenberg in 1895 at Tomah.

A resident of Tomah most of her life, she moved to Whitewater following her husband's death in 1942. Mrs. Achtenberg lived with her daughter, Mrs. C. A. Kildow, Whitewater. She was a member of the Tomah Congregational Church, Eastern Star and Royal Neighbors. Surviving are her daughter, Mrs. Kildow; a granddaughter and three great grandchildren. husband, four brothers and three sisters preceded her in death.

Her Services will be held at 2 p. m. Thursday at the Tomah Congregational Church, the Rev. Donald Hobbs, Whitewater Congregational Church, officiating. Eastern Star services will be conducted at the church. Burial will be in Oak Grove Cemetery, Tomah. Funeral arrangements were handled by the Skindingsrude and Lein Funeral Home."
