Descendants of Matthias Gabriel Diederich Barthels
Matthias Gabriel Diederich Barthels is the earliest-known ancestor of the Monroe County Barthels family. He and his wife were born in the Mecklenburg-Schwerin Province of Prussia in the 1750's.
One of his descendants, Johann Otto Barthels, and his wife, Anna Sophia Kicksee, were born in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern in the early-1820’s. They and their children emigrated to Monroe County in the mid-1850’s, and their children married into families such as Roeder, Zellmer, Marten and Backhaus.
